Shel Goldstein Lynne Sheffer Super Hero Super Sunday 2010, held on March 14, was a huge success due to the efforts of our beneficiary agencies, our volunteers and our donors who all worked together to make it a special day. In twelve hours, 110 volunteers representing 16 agencies closed 712 gifts, raising well over $114,000. Herb Greenman This year it was all about the Super Hero theme, as volunteers took out their capes and their old Super Hero t shirts and combined powers to break every record Super Sunday in Charlotte has seen. A special and heartfelt thank you is owed to a number of individuals and organizations for making this day so successful. Breakfast was provided by Phil’s Deli. Lunch was provided by Rabbi Vorst’s new Kosher Charlotte. Panera provided coffee for all of our volunteers throughout the day. Rotelli’s rounded out the evening with some deli cious pizzas for dinner. To thank our volunteers for their support and hard work, names were drawn throughout the day for prizes and gift certificates generously donated by Eye Optix, author Tamar Myers, author Steve Roberts, author Katya Lezin, the Temple Beth El Gift Shop, City Art Works, Mel Morganstein’s Photography by Mel, and Terrace Cafe. Super Sunday chairs Amy Terkel, Jill Blumenthal and David Levin wanted to make the day fun for the vol unteers who called between the hours of 9 AM-1 PM and 5-9 PM. All throughout the day, bells were ringing as solicitors signaled each other that a gift had been closed. Volunteers made phone calls, wrote thank you notes and assisted in the effort to call over 2,500 people. Special satellite stations were set up on Main Street and at the entrance to the Levine JCC Gym from 9 AM-1 PM to create awareness for Super Sunday and to make it easy for donors to make a pledge. Donors making a pledge at the satellite stations were given “I made my pledge on Super Sunday” stickers to wear For donors who wanted to call back and provide a pledge, the 24 Hour Pledge Hotline was up and ready to receive those donations. In order to thank and speak with each donor personally, the Federation attempts to reach everyone by phone or in person. However, if you were out and unable to “answer the call” you can make your pledge by calling the Federation office at 704-944-6757 or by visiting the Federation website at www.jewishcharlotte.org. The mission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is to raise and distribute funds to support and enrich the lives of Jews locally, nationally, in Israel and worldwide.
