Smith University Choir Crossroads Charlotte’s five- month, community-wide Sermon Exchange will open this year with Temple Beth El’s annual Martin Luther King Shabbat Service on January 14, at 7 PM in the reno vated Beth El Blumenthal Sanctuary. All are welcome. Esteemed community leader and Pastor of First Baptist Church-West, Dr. Ricky Woods, will preach the sermon. Building upon Temple Beth El’s growing relationship with Johnson C. Smith University, the JCSU’s choir will lift the words, prayers and meaning of this service to greater heights. Dr. Ricky A. Woods, Senior Minister of First Baptist Church- West since 1995, has worked tire lessly to help his church be a com munity beacon of social justice. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, his Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology in Richmond, VA, and his Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Woods preach es nationally and teaches doctoral students at the United Theology Dr. Woods has requested that particippants read this book befoer the MLK Shabbat service.
