It is the month in which our organization was founded, and it is also the month when the founder of Hadassah Henrietta Szold died. At age 84 on February 13, 1944, Henrietta Szold died at the Rothschild Hadassah University Hospital. Her funeral was attended by some of the tens of thousands of Youth Aliyah chil dren whose lives she had touched, as well as countless others whose lives she changed and re-charged. Sadly, she did not see the end of World War II; more sadly, she did not see the creation of the State of Israel or witness the pain and joy of its birth. But she laid a rock- solid foundation for us, for the future of the organization, for edu cation in the infant state, and a health plan which would meet the post war needs of Palestine’s peo ple and an “anticipated flood of war refugees.” More important the actions which her dreams demanded con tinued despite enormous responsi bilities piling on top of one anoth er. Hadassah, in 1945, at war’s end with the American Friends of Hebrew University, began a $4 million fundraising campaign to build the Hebrew University - Hadassah School of Medicine. Hadassah made success happen then and now. Our February pro grams are a great example of how Hadassah is a major player in supporting Israel and in our local community. From Carmel Renewal Operation to our “Ask the Doctor,” Hadassah volunteers offer you an opportunity to make a difference in your life and oth ers. ^ SAH Hadassah Celebrates Its Centennial Year with Such a Deal!
