For the New Year, the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah brings you four out standing physicians who are well regarded as experts in each of their areas of practice. If you have not ever attended a Silent Auction, you might be won dering what one looks like. At the center of this kind of fundraising event are hundreds of items that are generously donated by philan- thropically oriented businesses and charitable community mem bers. As each attendee arrives, he/she is assigned a bidding num ber to write down anonymously on bid sheets placed next to each item. When the auction ends, the highest bidders get their winnings, and the total amount raised bene fits the school. The proceeds of the annual JPS Silent Auctions help to fund a wide variety of special pro grams at the school and also increase the amount of available tuition assistance for families in need. This year’s “Wild, Wild West Showdown” Silent Auction show cases all sorts of fabulous things including vacation rentals, spa treatments, salon services, fine and costume jewelry, yoga and exercise classes, dental services, fine art, children’s entertainment and birthday party packages, Judaica, museum passes, sports and theater tickets, handyman and babysitting services, boutique items and gift certificates, kosher dining and catering gift certifi cates, photography sessions, teacher play dates, and many other treasures that you might not treat yourself to if buying them were not also making a donation to the Jewish Preschool on Sardis — the North Carolina licensed five-star preschool established twenty-five years ago for all Jewish children whose families celebrate Judaism in any of the denominational or unaffiliated ways that they choose. At this year’s “Wild, Wild West Showdown” Silent Auction, the excitement of bidding and win ning is only half the fun. Come dressed in your best southwestern attire (optional) for dinner and entertainment. Serafina Custom Design Catering will be providing deli cious gourmet south western “blow-ouf’ and chili bar (under the supervision of Congregation Ohr HaTorah). Throughout the night, you can “tear up Jake” (make some noise) with the country western band, “GB and ME,” and “bend an elbow” (have a drink) at the professionally tended bar that will be serving beer, wine, and margaritas.
