The Charlotte Jewish News - March 2011 - Page 9 Purim Sundae at Ohr HaTorah This year Purim begins the evening of Mareh 19. The grand eelebration at Ohr HaTorah starts Saturday night at 8:30 PM with adults and ehildren dressing up in their favorite eostume and, of eourse, the reading of the Seroll of Esther. There will be musie and holiday refreshments, ineluding delieious Hamantashen and drinks. The eelebration eontinues Sunday morning with a speeial holiday serviee at 8:30 AM, ineluding the reading of the Megillah at 9 AM. In addition to listening to the Megillah reading, there are three other mitzvot we perform on Purim day: Mishloaeh Manot are paekages of ready-to-eat foods or drink that we deliver to at least one friend; Matanot Laevyonim are the gifts we give to the poor and we should eaeh give at least two gifts to the poor; and the last Purim mitzvah we do is to eat a Purim meal - a thanksgiving feast. The feast eelebrates the great mir- aele of Purim when the Jewish people were reseued from wieked Haman’s evil plans. Divine provi- denee allowed Queen Esther to intervene and spoil Haman’s plans, whieh led to the ereation of the Purim Holiday. Purim Sundae will be a Grand Purim Feast open to the Charlotte Jewish Community. The dinner is a family/ehild friendly menu, and will inelude lee Cream Sundaes for dessert. Prior to the dinner, at 5 PM, there will be an additional reading of the Megillah for anyone who missed the Sunday morning reading. The eost to partieipate in the Purim Sundae dinner will be $50 per family or $18 per single.
