The Charlotte Jewish News - April 2011 - Page 19 News from Hank Greenberg AZA Sunday Circle Now that Winter Cultural Convention is over, we are having fun partieipating in exeiting ehap- ter programs. Hank Greenberg members reeently enjoyed our Haganah Israeli Stealth program, where we split up into teams of four and moved from one end of Shalom Park to the other as teams without getting eaught. Chapter programs and sleepovers have allowed Hank Greenberg AZA to promote Judaism and brotherhood while having a good time. To make the most of our Tuesday nights at the J, our ehapter has planned many great aetivities for the rest of the year. As a ehapter we are looking forward to ehapter dinners, sports events, a “weird seienee” program, a seavenger hunt and more. Some Hank Greenberg AZA members as well as many other Charlotte BBYO teens just partieipated in our first East Coast Kallah held in Bethesda, MD on Mareh 11-13. Eastern Region teens explored Judaism with teens from seven other regions. The final eonven- tion of the year, NC Spring Couneil will be held the first weekend in April. We will eleet new eouneil leaders for the fol lowing year and say goodbye to many friends who are graduating this spring. ^ Synagogue. ONGREGATIONS Celebrating Susan Jacobs Whoever teaehes a ehild Torah, teaehes not only that ehild but also that ehild’s ehild and so on to the end of generations. Susan Jaeobs has taught and inspired all of our ehildren and families and has transformed our future. On Friday, April 15, our eon- gregation will attend a Shabbat eelebration and dinner in honor of Susan’s 10+ years as Direetor of our Religious Sehool and more. Susan will be honored at our Shabbat Worship serviee at 6 PM at whieh Dan Niehols and his band elShteen will join Cantor Bernard and Mary Thomas to make this a very speeial tribute. Dan Niehols’ musie has beeome an essential part of the liberal Jewish world, with Jewish youth and elergy alike ineorporating it into their study, worship, and eommunal eelebra- tions. Dan Niehols and his band elShteen will entertain us during and after dinner. Our new Sunday Cirele pro gram is open to all families of ehildren with speeial needs in our eommunity. Meet the Friendship Cirele’s amazing volunteers. Sign up your ehild to be a part of the Friends @ Home program. Sunday Cirele is an exeiting and innovative way to involve the ehil dren and their volunteers in a range of aetivities sueh as erafts, sports, life skills, and more. The positive feedbaek of the interae- tion between the speeial ehildren and their volunteers has been ineredible. This Sunday Cirele will feature many eool aetivities ineluding a speeial Musie Cirele by Laura Haneoek of Dreamweavers Unlimited. Join us on Sunday, April 3 at 3-4:30 at the 2. Temple Beth El Second Night Community Seder “Let all who are hungry eome and eat,” the Haggadah enjoins us to say. At our Seder table, we sym- bolieally open our doors two times, onee for the hungry in our midst as we invite them to join us, and onee for Elijah the Prophet. At Beth El, we open our doors and weleome to our Seder table all those who want to eelebrate Passover as a eommunity. Our engaging, uplifting and warm Seeond Night Community Seder will be led by Rabbi Sehindler, Rabbi Streiffer and Cantor Bernard. This year’s Seder will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 6 PM in the David Silverman Soeial Hall at Temple Beth El. The eost ranges from $15 for young ehil dren to $55 for non-member adults.
