The Charlotte Jewish News - May 2011 - Page 7 Havurat Tikvah Teens: Proud to be “MIA” Most parents might be eon- eemed to hear teens deseribing themselves as “MIA.” At Havurat Tikvah, “MIA” has an entirely dif ferent and happy eonnotation. Organized for and run by our teens, “Mitzvahs In Aetion” is rap idly developing a program of interesting aetivities and projeets to serve the eommunity while pro viding a fun opportunity for soeial interaetion. “MIA” teens were present at this year’s Purim Carnival, manning a booth and volunteering to enhanee the festiv ities for families gathered to eele- brate the holiday. Another reeent aetivity found members of the group brightening the day for Carriage Club residents who were lueky enough to sample some of their home-baked ehallah. What’s on the horizon? Look for a sereen- printing projeet to ereate the group’s signature t-shirt. To learn more about “MIA,” or any of the aetivities listed below, look to the end of this artiele for all our eon- taet information. This month’s Community Shabbat serviee will begin at 10 AM on May 21. We’ll gather to take a break from the beetle rou tine of the week, to worship together, and to be part of the Havurah “family.” As always, serviees will be followed by a pot- luek luneh and an opportunity to and new a kosher/ relax with friends aequaintanees over pareve meal. We’ve also reeently expanded our religious programming to inelude a 2nd Wednesday monthly Minyan. The Minyan for this month will be held on May 11 at 7:30 and will be followed by eof- fee and a little nosh. In addition to serviees, we are always happy to invite partieipa- tion in ongoing mitzvah aetivities: The Dilworth Soup Kitehen eontinues to provide nourishing meals and a warm weleome to those in need. Visit the kitehen on Faeebook: www.faeebook.eom/ group.php?gid=77134194660 for more information about this vibrant eommunity resouree. And helping hands are weleome at “Projeet Linus” where Havurah members and friends meet to pro- duee hand-made “seeurity-blan- kets” for ehildren who are serious ly ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. We weleome all willing hands; no experienee is neeessary and there’s a job for everyone. Havurat Tikvah is an affiliate of the Jewish Reeonstruetionist Federation, providing a eomfort- able, family atmosphere where all Jews ean feel weleome.
