Rabbi Jonathan Freirieh will
join Beth El as Assoeiate

Cantor Mary Thomas will
beautifully round out the
elergy team.
Rabbi Freirieh has served
Temple Bat Yam, a Reform
synagogue, in South Lake
Tahoe for the past eight years.
Prior to that, he worked with Hillel in
Tueson, AZ and Cleveland, OH for four
years. Those Beth El members who have
met Rabbi Freirieh deseribe him as
learned, personable, outgoing, funny, and
a great fit for our eongregation. His pas
sions inelude Jewish learning, eombining
fun aetivities with a Jewish flavor, and
enthusiastie partieipation in eommunity
life. He loves to bike, ski, and read sei-
enee fietion and fantasy. His wife, Ginny,

is a ketubah artist and his four year
old son, Jude, eannot wait to play
in the Levine JCC’s Camp Katan
and learn in our Charlotte Jewish
Presehool.
Rabbi Jonathan grew up as a
Reform Jew at Central Synagogue
in Manhattan and was ordained at
the Reeonstruetionist Rabbinieal
College in Philadelphia. He and
Ginny met as undergrads at
Middlebury College in
Vermont. Rabbi Jonathan has been a
longtime member of both the Central
Conferenee of Ameriean Rabbis and the
Reeonstruetionist Rabbinieal Assoeiation.
Many in our eommunity are already
familiar with the talents of Cantor Mary
Thomas as she served Beth El for three
years as a Cantorial Intern prior to attend
ing Cantorial Sehool. Cantor Thomas will
be working part-time leading serviees,
teaehing B’nei Mitzvah with Cantor
Bernard, working with the Religious
Sehool, teaehing adult edueation, ereating
family programming, and sharing with all

was born and raised in
Hamden, CT, with his par
ents, Gail and Steve, both
teaehers, and his three sib
lings: Ari, Miehal, and

Rabbi Raueher graduat
ed from the Ameriean
Jewish University in May
2011. He attended Hofstra University in
Hempstead, NY where he earned his
Baehelor of Arts with a major in Judaie
Studies.
As a Rabbinie Intern at Temple Beth
Am in LA, he volunteered at the soup
kitehen and worked on transitional hous
ing projeets. He also ereated
and implemented a Learner’s
Minyan, guiding partieipants
to develop a deeper under
standing of prayers and tradi
tions. Rabbi Raueher worked
with others to build a earing
eompassionate intra-syna
gogue network governed by
Jewish values. Also, while at
Temple Beth Am, he served as
an Edueation Intern/Viee
Prineipal of Religious Sehool
where he ereated meaningful
and ongoing learning models.
He developed multiple family-
oriented lessons for family
Shabbat morning serviees that
integrated eommunieation,
eross-generational learning
and Jewish literaey.
While at Ameriean Jewish
University he served as the
Direetor of Student Life where he sue-
eessfully developed one-on-one relation
ships with students and planned programs
sueh as aleohol and drug awareness,
blood drives and eareer fairs. While at
Ziegler Sehool of Rabbinie Studies, he
served as Minyan Coordinator, where he
helped organize and guide stu
dent-led morning and after
noon serviees. He also men
tored students to assume lead
ership roles.

Representative Sue Myriek to dis-
euss the growing global threat of
Hezbollah and Iran, and what the
mainstream media won’t tell you
about the Muslim Brotherhood,
and the online jihad in our baek-
yard.
In 2009, Sue Myriek was
seleeted by House Leadership to
serve on the House Permanent
Seleet Committee on Intelligenee.
The Intelligenee Committee has
jurisdietion over the Intelligenee
eommunity, ineluding intelli-
genee-related aetivities of the
CIA, Defense Intelligenee Ageney
(DIA), the National Seeurity
Ageney, and other ageneies of the
Department of Defense (DOD),
and the Departments of State,
Justiee, and Treasury.
Reeently, Rep. Sue Myriek was
appointed ehairwoman of a sub-
eommittee on the full Intelligenee
Committee. Myriek, a Charlotte
Republiean, will take over as
ehairwoman of the Subeommittee
on Terrorism, Human Intelligenee,
Analysis and Counterintelligenee.
The role puts Myriek in the posi
tion of holding hearings and inves
tigations, ineluding a ehief eon-
eem of hers, homegrown terror
ism.

ness, and serving two terms as
mayor of Charlotte, NC, the state’s
largest eity and eommereial hub.
She is eurrently in her eighth term
representing North Carolina’s 9th
distriet, whieh eovers portions of
Union, Meeklenburg, and Gaston
Counties.
Sue Myriek is also leading the
eharge nationally on issues related
to terrorism. She is the founder of
the Congressional Anti-Terrorism
Caueus, whieh has more than 120
Members. This eaueus meets with
experts on terrorism and works to
