The Charlotte Jewish News - August 2011 - Page 9 Home for the Holy Days The greatest joy from our reno vation this year is that we will be eelebrating the High Holy Days in our newly renovated and expand ed Temple Beth El home. It has been years sinee we have been able to eongregate in our sanetuary for the High Holy Days for all of our serviees. With the addition of the Sandra & Leon Levine Soeial Hall we are able to open the Blumenthal Sanetuary to the north and south and aeeommodate more than 1,500 people. While this is not large enough for everyone to attend worship together, we will have double serviees for the evenings and mornings of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We will split our eongregation evenly to aeeommodate our numbers, for both morning and evening servie es. Junior Congregation and Babysitting will take plaee in the Bobbi & Don Bernstein Edueation Building. We are working with the Foundation of Shalom Park to develop a parking plan sinee there is not enough room for members of both Temples to park. May this new year be a speeial one for all of Temple Beth El’s family as we start off 5772 by being Home for the Holy Days. ^ Till TEMPLE BETH EL A Visit to URJ 6 Points Sports Academy in Greensboro By Andy Harkavy After spending two weeks serv ing as faeulty and witnessing the exeitement at the URJ 6 Points Sports Aeademy, I saw exaetly why this eamp doubled in size from 224 eampers in its first year to 450-1- in its seeond year. This eamp provided young Jewish ath letes (ages 10-16) the opportunity to partieipate in traditional eamp aetivities and live with other Jewish athletes, all while learning sports and life skills from profes sional eoaehes and Jewish eoun- selors. Children from 32 states and five eountries spent the summer forming new friendships, develop ing their athletie talents, and exploring their Jewish identities. This is the perfeet plaee to send your ehildren if they are an aspiring young Jewish athlete. For more information, visit the 6 Points website at www.6 points.urjeamps.org. Alex Koeh, a 16-year-old eamper says, “Six Points was a great experienee. I met a ton of new friends, I had a lot of fun with my sport, and I have drastieally improved my game all while hav ing fun in a Jewish environment. I feel so mueh eloser and happier with myself religiously.” ^ Youth Director/Asst.
