Hadassah mem bers all over the world are ready to welcome the fall and celebrate the New Year. I wish all of us a happy and healthy New Year. Our Hadassah year promises to be one to remember because of you, because of what we do, because of how we impact lives here in Charlotte, Israel and around the world. New Years is an opportunity to learn pew things, so here are just a few facts you may not know about our chapter and about Hadassah. We have grown significantly in the past year. Our chapter has now more than 1,000 members and associates. For many it is a family tradition of three and even four generations, while for others it is the beginning of a new tradition. For all of us it is an opportunity to show we care. Sharing personal and Jewish values and passing them over from one generation to the next. Every month our members get together for fun and mean ingful events. Did you know that all of our events are created by volunteers, community members like you and me? Did you know that on the last week end of April our chapter will host the Hadassah region conference here in Charlotte. It is a great opportunity for our members to take part in a life changing event, to meet Hadassah members from across the region, and to be inspired by the great speaker's and wonderful programs. At Hadassah we are not waiting for the future, we are building it. The Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower at Hadassah Medical • Center, to be dedicated in 2012, will be the first to unite advanced medical technologies with a pro found spirit of healing. The Tower will offer not only expanded centers of excellence with state of the art technology, but will also provide trailblazing research to realize the promise of stem cell treatment and unlock the mysteries of heart disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, gene therapy, and much more. That at Hadassah we believe in action and our actions are building peace one step at a time. The following is a free transla tion from Arabic of an excerpt from an article published by Saudi newspaper “Al-Watan”; “...The only registry of bone marrow in the world for Arab donors exists at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. It is remarkable because there are only 1.2 million Arabs in Israel, compared to more than 400 million in the entire world... Dr. Amal Bishara, an Arab PhD at Hadassah has visited more than 60 Arab villages in Israel since the registry was estab lished in 2008....” You can find more information on our website www.charlottehad- dasaah.org and on Facebook. Vice President of Fund Raising The Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah once a year approach its members, associates and support er to raise funds to make mitzvot happen and to enable the continu ation of its programs. This is a very special year because it is Hadassah’s 100th Anniversary during which my fellow Hadassah members arc being invited to enjoy a stay-at-home trip to Israel. This campaign for donations is Hadassah’s major source for fund ing and virtually every cent of what is given counts because Hadassah is powered by volun teers. Donations will enable Hadassah to continue to (1) pro vide world class medical care to over one million people in Israel of all nationalities and beliefs annually; (2) make advancements in treatments for AIDS, breast and colon cancer, Crohn’s Disease, diabetes, macular degeneration, MS/ALS and Parkinson’s — dis eases and conditions that impact almost every Jewish family in our community; (3.) conduct research programs in stem cell treatment; (4) respond Jo international crises-.-' sif6h as Haiti; (5) partner with JNF to reforest Israel, build harbors, reservoirs and parks; and (5) save thousands of disadvantaged and at-risk children in Youth Aliyah villages. In Charlotte, our volunteers continue to provide variety of pro grams, from the film festival to ask the doctor to monthly meal 'preparation for JFS - all of which strft^e' to engage, challenge and enrich our comipunity members’ lives.
