Well, at least the two would have been had Adam been given the “rock” by the Almighty. Of course I jest, but Jews have been involved in the game of bas ketball since it emerged from the urban streets of Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York in the first three decades of the twenti eth century. Only then, many of the stars had names like Dutch Garfinkel and Doc Lou Sugerman. While Jewish participation on a semi-professional or profession al level is not as widespread as it once was, Jewish basketball stars still shine bright; and wouldn’t you know it, many of them play right here in Charlotte at the Levine Jewish Community Center. These players are a diverse crowd. Some rain three pointers like the frogs rained down on the Egyptians in the time of the Exodus. Some crash the boards and sweep out the opponent from the paint like the waters of the Sea of Reeds did to Pharoah’s sol diers. Others seemingly turn their defenders to immovable Pillars of Salt like Lot’s Wife as they drive to the basket. And others like me just come to get some really good exercise. If you are in search of a won derful pick-up game of adult bas ketball where everyone gets to play and everyone’s unique skills are welcomed, come out on Tuesday, Thursday mornings at 6 AM, and Fridays at 6 AM and 7:15 AM for some spirited, sweat- inducing, and friendship forming games. ^ The Charlotte Jewish Preschool uUike6^ u(m f 1 L’Sh JV, va!
