I arrived in Charlotte a few weeks ago and right from the start 1 felt the community’s warm southern hospitality...” {CJN- August 2010) We have experienced so much together this past year. As my year came to a close, 1 thought about saying goodbye to y’all and it brought tears to my eyes. So instead of being sad, I decided to stay- not for good, but at least for a second year. The community was so wel-. coming and that made my job of bringing Israel to each and every one of you so much more enjoyable. From working with the religious school, educating the kids about the five Aliyot and Israeli politics, to working with the Spice and Sage older adult groups discussing Israel’s achievements, we have made a wonderful connection with Israel. Creating a stronger con nection with Israel is our Shlichut (mission). We have such a strong com munity here in Charlotte but it is important we not forget the rest of our community in Israel. Israel is now facing difficult time's. The recent upheaval began with coordinated terror attacks near Eilat, then nonstop bombings in the South and most recently, the attack in Tel Aviv outside of a club hosting a teen party. Israel needs your support now more than ever. Don’t close your eyes and your mouth. We must all be advocates for Israel. 1 do not know how we turned to be the Goliath of this story, but it is important to remember that this is our country and we have the responsibility for protecting it. 1 have enjoyed bringing Israel to this community and can’t wait to start the second year. And remember- "Ein lanu eretz acheret. We have no other land!” >> Jewish Federation Welcomes New Director of Community Relations and Israel Affairs Federation’s Lions of Judah adopted the Freedom School scholars by donating swim bags and backpacks. The swim bags themselves, donated by Charlotte Aquatics, were packed with bathing suits, tow els and suntan lotion. The back packs were filled with school supplies and distributed at the Freedom School finale. According to Freedom School Committee Member Tracy Brown, “The scholars were absolutely thrilled with the backpacks. As soon as we hand ed them out, the scholars promptly put them on their backs and would not part with them. One mother told me that the backpacks were a blessing to her since she is a single par ent getting five children ready for school.” The Jewish Federation, of Greater Charlotte is pleased to welcome Rachael Levine as the new Director of Community Relations and Israel Affairs.
