The Charlotte Jewish News - November 2011 - Page 16 Jewish Family Services Embrace a Jewish Family for Chanukah The holiday of Chanukah is a wonderful opportunity for your family to learn about the impor tance of tzedakah, social responsi bility, and compassion for those in need. Many families in our community are still struggling financially due to the economic downturn and have difficulties purchasing presents to give their children during the holiday. There are also many older and disabled adults living on limited and fixed incomes who need to be remem- b(^d. At this time of year, indi viduals and families need a break from the reality of life’s struggles. This is a great way for you, your family, group, and/or business to make the holiday a little brighter for a family who is experiencing difficulties. You can help right now. Several agencies throughout the Jewish community are collaborating with JFS to provide a special holiday for the families in need in our community. Gifts will be needed for all age groups: children (younger and older); teens and tweens; and young, middle age and older adults. Purchase new, unwrapped gifts which are both fun and/or practical. Please remember that many of our fami lies in need cannot afford many of the “luxuries” that we take for granted, such as clothing, paying for a haircut, going out to the MODERN MUFFIN II miitfinery with original recipes by Claire Furtennan Muffins for any occasion made with all natural and organic ingredients! They understand the expectations of a classroom.” She added, “JPS was the best preparation for his devel opmental level. His school experi ence [at JPS] got him ready for kindergarten. He is soaking up everything! Academics are com- - ing in a flood, because he was so well prepared. I’m excited to watch the growth now with Sarah.” While Sarah may be excited to come to school every day, Lori is just as excited as well. She has stated to parents in formal and informal settings that JPS allows parents to be as involved with the school as they can or want to be. Lori started off by volunteering on committees for Book Fair,. Hamentashen baking day, teacher appreciation week, and anyplace else that she was needed. She then moved on .to chairing committees and is now PTO president. While many parents want to participate in any way possible, not everyone wants, to or is able to. We know that many families are stretched with time commitments and so we ask that families give what they can in terms of time. Lori states, “Families have numerous oppor tunities to help continue and cre ate the school community inside and outside of the school.” I am appreciating all that JPS has to offer, and I continue to find new and exciting things that are special to our school each day. We work hard to support our the mis sion of JPS in promoting discov ery through stimulating environ ments, valuing children for their unique attributes, and allowing them time to grow cognitively, socially, emotionally and physi cally in a Jewish preschool. We welcome anyone who would like to learn more about JPS and all of the programs we offer to call our office at 704-364-8395 and arrange a personal tour. Our fami lies love what we do and we know you will too. O
