The Charlotte Jewish News - November 2011 - Page 6 New Clergy Installation at Temple Beth El On Friday, November 4, Temple Beth El will formally wel come Rabbi Jonathan Freirich and Cantor Mary Thomas into our Temple family and into the Charlotte Jewish community as our newest leaders and teachers. Why installation? After all, Rabbi Freirich and Cantor Thomas have already made considerable contri butions to our community during the four busy and exciting months since their arrival. Like many sig nificant ceremonies in Judaism, it is an opportunity to acknowledge and formalize the unique covenan- tal relationship between a commu nity and its leaders. Just as we welcome bar and bat mitzvah stu- Rabbi Jonathan Freirich dents to our Temple family, or sur round the wedding couple with our pledge of support during their lives together, this is a time to cel ebrate all we look forward to in the months and years ahead, and to commit ourselves to supporting and lifting up our newest clergy as they strive to guide and care for all of us. At our 8 PM service on November 4, special guests will join the board and staff of Temple Beth El for this service of installa tion. Rabbi Myra Soifer, rabbi emeritus of Temple Sinai in Reno, Nevada, will be the installation speaker. Rabbi Soifer, one of the first women to be ordained as a rabbi in the 1970s, has been a leader in the cmsade for human rights for the past 25 years. She will share her wisdom with us and lift our worship as we gather to embrace Rabbi Freirich and Cantor Thomas with the warmth and spirit of our Temple Beth El family. ^ www.mattimoveschotlotte..cd tn our present TMfke1;'1tVi^ot to workjWjh.a Knaltpr.witfr-. d prbyefKtrdcl^record: t will hetp^geffou going down tke tighjpnth.
