Charlotte Birthright Israel Trip May 2012
Throughout history, two things have
linked the Jewish people to one another
regardless of time and plaee. One is the
Torah; the other is the land of Israel.
This past May, thanks to a generous
donation from The Leon Levine
Foundation, 40 young adults from the
Carolinas traveled to Israel for the first
time on a 10-day free trip with
Birthright Israel.
They elimbed Masada. Floated in the
Dead Sea. Rode eamels. They explored
Jerusalem and touehed the Western
Wall. They met Israeli soldiers and stu
dents. All distanees shrink. Cultural dif-
ferenees fade. In laughter and reflee-
tion, they rediseovered the meaning of
Jewish eommunity.
This is the third eommunity based
trip in whieh the Jewish Federation of
Greater Charlotte (JFGC) partnered
with Birthright Israel to give our
young adults the opportunity to ^
experienee Israel together, as a
eommunity. The goal of this part
nership is that Charlotte-based
Birthright alumni will be inspired
by their first Israel experienee to
beeome more aetive in our eom
munity. When a eritieal mass of
young adults eommits to post-trip
engagement, Jewish life in our
eommunity and NC eampuses is
transformed.
