Jacob Stark, Junior UNC-Chapel Hill, Biology Major When my fRiend and I weRe chilled to the office in kindeRgciRten , we thought we were in big trouble. But it turned out, some teachers just wanted us to identify a dinosaur in a book. That's the kind of place CJDS is. The teachers valued our knowledge, and they really got to know us. The small classroom environment at CJDS fostered great habits that have helped me throughout my education. With the school's supportive and enriching atmosphere, I learned to ask questions and realized that it is ok to be friends with your teachers. As I transitioned to larger classrooms in high school and college,! took the time to introduce myself and directly communicate with my teachers. Therefore, I was able to distinguish myself from other students, do better in my classes and gain research opportunities. The Day School also helped to foster my love of science and nature. I still remember our 5th grade aquarium project, which, in part, involved monitoring to make sure that the baby guppies didn't get eaten. These rich classroom memories at the Day School helped me translate my love for the outdoors and science into a major, as well as a possible career path. At UNC, I'm an ecology lab assistant, and I also conduct my own research. My responsibilities at a summer Boy Scout camp have grown to where I am now the Ecology Director with a staff of four. Next year I plan to go to Kenya and Tanzania through UNC's School for Field Studies. r in; Charlotte Jewish 704.366.4558 • CJDSCHOOL.org School Strong academic foundation for living Jewishly. to attend our High Holy Day Services.
