What does Maccabi mean to me?
Casey Bogarad, Coach:
Maccabi is an unforgettable experi
ence that all Dewish Teens need to
experience. As a former athlete and
present day coach, the meaning of
Maccabi is one to be recognized. The
ability for thousands of athletes to join
together under the rules of rachmanus,
show athletic talent and ability, make
lifelong friendships, all while commit
ting acts of love and kindness is as
good as it gets.
Dena Raffler, Mom:
It seems just like yesterday that our
"now" college freshmen Yoni and
college junior Rebecca were packing
up their gear. They couldn't sleep all
night, so excited because they had
an early 'wakeup' the next morning
to meet their Maccabi team. They
traveled to St. Paul, Vancouver,
Orange County, San Diego and San
Francisco. The exciting destinations
they went to over their eight different
Maccabi Games
participations.
Rebecca was the
only Charlotte girls
basketball player
Charlotte
(LfUv
Maccabi 2013
Orange County, CA
during her tenure
and was always
placed on teams
with other delega
tions. She is still in
contact many of
the girls. She even
traveled to Israel
with them to com
pete in the Macca-
biah games.
/rhile the focus for this
wonderful event is athletics,
it is much more than that:
It is being with Jewish teens
from all around the world...
It is the 'taste' of sweet
independence...
It is knowing you belong to
something really special..."
Yoni played golf, soccer and baseball
over the years. He still cherishes many
of the wonderful moments of his active
Maccabi time. He still talks about Golf
at Torrey Pines.
Max & Sam Lahn, 2012 Athletes:
Max: Maccabi gave me a chance to
compete in a sport against teens from
other cities, states & countries. I made
new Dewish friends from across the
globe! I loved the independence and
being able to make
my own decisions.
Som;To me Maccabi
means making new
friends from all over
the place and to play
in tournaments with
new & old friends.
I played basketball
and even though we
were a very small
team from a small city,
I had the best time.
I will definitely go
next year.
