Hadassah Installs New
Board and President
Patricia Johnson
By Patricia Johnson, President,
Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah
Surrounded by the gracious
support of members, community
leaders, family, and friends, the
Charlotte Hadassah’s board for
2013 was installed.
We welcomed those new to our
board and thank the returning
members and committee chairs for
their ongoing commitment to
Hadassah. We are fortunate to
have the support of such accom
plished women, many of them past
presidents, who continue to be in
volved as leaders and volunteers.
I want to thank Hadas Kasher
for the contributions she made to
ward our organization’s rich
legacy for the past two and a half
years.
Our chapter has grown signifi
cantly; we now have over 1000
members and associates. Thanks
to the generosity of our donors we
were able to exceed our financial
goals surpassing our overall
fundraising goal.
Hadassah members acknowl
edge the responsibility to continue
the profound work of changing
lives locally and around the globe.
At the local level, our chapter
leaders feel palpable excitement to
build on what has been an amazing
year for the chapter with our grow
ing membership, inspiring initia
tives, and new exciting events that
appeal to our diverse member
base.
We have many exciting events
in store for the community in the
next several months. On February
11, we will host our annual Health
Night which is free and open to the
public. In late February during the
Purim Carnival at the JCC we will
unveil the 2013 Charlotte Area
Jewish Community Directory.
With appreciation to our mem
bers and supporters we look for
ward to a successful 2013.^

Feel-Good Film: Celebrate the 25th
Anniversary of “Crossing Delancey”
The Jewish Film Society of
Charlotte celebrates the 25th
anniversary of the classic film
Crossing Delancey on Sunday,
February 17 at 5 PM. Please
join us for a film screening,
free freshly popped popcorn,
and door prizes drawn from a
pickle barrel. “This film always
puts a smile on my face,” says
film curator, Debby Block.
The romantic comedy stars
Amy Irving as a single upwardly-
mobile young woman, Isabelle
Grossman. Isabelle’s Bubble
(played by the legendary Yiddish
theatre star Reizl Bozyk in her
only film role) is anxious to see
her lovely granddaughter married
and engages a matchmaker. Need
less to say, Isabelle has no interest
in marrying a pickle vendor from
the Lower East Side.
The Jewish Film Society is co
sponsored by the Levine-Sklut Ju
daic Library and the Charlotte
Jewish Film Festival. Preview
trailers for the the Film Festival,
which begins March 2, will be
highlighted and tickets for the
Film Festival will sold on the
evening of Crossing Delancey.
