This unique event is part of the Federation’s Israel @ 65 Initiative that eelebrates the 65th anniversary of the State of Israel. Ten seniors were se- leeted from their Jazz group to travel to the US and take part in one of the most premier Jazz eonferenees in the world, the 2013 Jazz Edueation Network Conferenee in Atlanta. Prior to this performanee, the group led a Master Class that in- eluded exeeptionally talented Charlotte area high sehool mu- sieians from the Jazz Arts Initia tive’s All Star team as well as the general eommunity. The Master Class gave the teens an opportunity to learn from one another and led to a meaningful dialogue between the two eul- tures through their eommon lan guage- musie. Lonnie Davis, Exeeutive Di- reetor and President of the Jazz Arts Initiative, stated “I believe that the interaetion between the student groups was genuine and prieeless.” One parent eom- mented, “That was a wonderful fi Shabbat Candle Lighting FOR February 2013 Friday, February 1, 5:33 PM Friday, February 8, 5:40 PM Friday, February 15, 5:47 PM Friday, February 22, 5:54 PM The Charlotte Jewish News 5007 Providence Road, Suite 112 Charlotte, NC 28226 Phone (voice mail after office hours) Office 704-944-6765 FAX 704-365-4507 email: charlottejewishnews@shalomcharlotte.org An Affiliate of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte Amy Krakovitz - Editor Advertising Sales Reps: Jodi Valenstein, 704-609-0950 or Scott Moskowitz, 704-906-2474 Art Director, Erin Bronkar, 704-847-2185, ebronkar@carolina.rr.com CJN Editorial Board Chair - Bob Davis Members: Bob Abel, Evelyn Berger, David Delfiner, Jeff Epstein, Ann Langman, Linda Levy The CJN does not assume responsibility for the quality or kasruth of any product or service advertised.
