Our thanks, as always, go to our faeulty and staff, who give un tiringly of themselves to edueate and motivate the future leaders of our eommunity. Without them, Wednesday would just be another night in Charlotte. On May 5, we said a fond farewell to our graduating seniors. The seniors and their families joined us for a delieious dinner entered by Jered Mond. Rabbi Raueher, Andrew Bernstein, and Roz Cooper all addressed the graduates and wished them well as they embark on the next ehapter in their lives. All of the speakers en- eouraged the students to visit often and to rely on their Jewish her itage for the strength needed to make good deeisions in the years ahead. The most moving words of the evening eame from the seniors themselves. All present shared their Hebrew High experienees and taught the adults present that we learn more from our students than they do from us. Below is an example of one graduate’s thoughts: “Hello everyone. Thank you for eoming to Post Confirmation Graduation. ... I would like to start by saying thank you to An drew, Tair, and Roni for being amazing teaehers who instilled Jewish values, while always lis tening to what I had to say. I have learned so mueh from all of you. “Last year’s David Projeet taught me about Israeli Advoeaey. I learned how important it is to stay informed about what is hap pening in the world. It taught me to respeet other’s opinions be- eause if I don’t, I eannot expeet them to respeet mine. Above all, I learned that although I may not ehange another’s views, I ean at least inform them and quite possi bly make them think about the repereussions of their aetions. “This year I learned about my Jewish identity. I learned what being Jewish really means to me. I was taught many things from Ju daism’s viewpoints on life, to the spirit of the IDF, whieh I will al ways keep with me in ease there is ever a need to inform someone on the true morals of the IDF versus the propaganda we frequently see on TV and in the news. “I would like to extend a very speeial thank you to Roz. You have been sueh a supportive prin- eipal. You have permitted me to be a part of the Hebrew High family, and for that I am very grateful. Next year I will truly miss our rou tine pre-Hebrew High eonversa- tion in your offiee. I am going to eollege, and like my sis ter Raehel (who is very involved in the Jewish eommunity on eampus), I will join and greatly partieipate in Hillel. I hope to apply what I have learned to the real world, as I am sure I will experienee many situations where I will have the opportunity to edueate people on Israel and Judaism. “Aside from what I have learned, I would like to thank Temple Israel and Rabbi Raueher. If it wasn’t for you I would not have been able to partieipate nearly as mueh as I did with USY the past few years where I have made lifelong friends. Lastly I would like to thank the entire Shalom Park Community. I live in a predominantly Christian area with a minimal [number] of Jews. My family diseovered Shalom Park, and I instantly felt at home being a part of the Jewish Com munity. I hope to visit a lot next year when I am in eollege. Thank you and I will miss you all very mueh.” The rest of the sehool eele- brated a job well done on May 8 with a pizza dinner before elass and an iee eream soeial after elass. These parties were funded by our PTO. Please remember to eheek the PTO line and send in your eheek when registering for He brew High. The student eouneil thanked the teaehers with a speeial pOSt-COD&TOlitioD pltotos tribute during the iee eream soeial. Speeial thanks to the members of our student eouneil for all of their work for our elosing program and throughout the year. Have a great summer. Appliea- tions are now being taken for the 2013-2014 sehool year. We’ll see all of our 8th-12th graders next fall.
