challenge and raised the initial
$675,000. This summer, the
186th family. The Leon Levine
Foundation, contributed the re
maining $75,000.
“The Levine Foundation
showed us the power of giving,”
says Slade Goldstein, president of
Temple Kol Tikvah. “By giving
in a manner that makes all stake
holders responsible for the out
come, the Foundation has made
this a stronger, more cohesive
community than it may have oth
erwise been.”
After months of renovating,
the congregation dedicated their
new home in April 2013, which
coincided with the successful
completion of the Connection
Point Capital Campaign.
“Strengthening Jewish Com
munities and helping to build
Jewish identity is one of the
tenets of The Levine Foundation
mission,” said Tom Lawrence, the
Foundation’s Executive Director.
“We are pleased to have played a
part in Temple Kol Tikvah’s
fundraising success.” ^
One Word - Many Meanings by

own hand, but that over the year,
that engraving gets covered with
grit. We ask God to write out the
word “life” again on Rosh
Hashanah and to seal it up on Yom
Kippur. We know God wants to
forgive, and longs for our commit
ment to renew and transform.
On Yom Kippur, the Sabbath of
all Sabbaths, we acknowledge our
need for At-One-Ment with God.
We ask for the chance to try again.
We invoke God as a witness to our
vows.
Shin-Bet-Ayin: To give a
pledge, to invoke God, to commit
to doing what is good and right.
Who among us does not hope
for a time of healing, a time to feel
- at once and for certain - com
plete and whole? Who among us
does not pray to do better - by our
loved ones, by our friends and col
leagues, by God? Do we not all
long for shin-bet-ayin in its full
range of meanings?
The Days of Awe focus our at
tention on who we are and what
we were meant to be: Complete,
full, in possession of an abun
dance we can offer the world, to
repair and restore it. Shin-Bet-
Ayin in all its forms and mean
ings.
May we be blessed with just
that this New Year. ^
