Paint the Way for Breast Cancer Research
By Eileen A. Schwart:
Breast cancer is a disease that
affects us all.
During the month of October,
the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah
has planned multiple events to
raise awareness and funds for can
cer research.
Hadassah is a worldwide or
ganization with 350,000 members
in the United States with a 1,000
members locally. The Hadassah
Medical Organization is known
for its ground breaking cancer re
search and October is Breast Can
cer Awareness month.
Women ages 21 -121 are invited
to have their Ta Tas painted by
volunteer artists on October 3 at
the Levine JCC from 9 AM-7 PM
or on October 10 at the Mint Mu
seum from 11 AM-9 PM. The
artists will paint original designs
on adult females and the resulting

art will be photographed by fe
male photographers. Disguising
the bare torsos and identities of
the women allows for viewing the
paintings as a piece of art. Many
of the volunteers are breast cancer
survivors, family and friends, sup
porters, as well as members of
Hadassah.
“Celebrate the Ta Tas is a
unique program which provides
an exciting way for people to get
personally involved, increase
awareness and raise funds for life
saving research,” Charlotte Chap
ter of Hadassah President Patricia
Johnson said.
Artist, Karen Kantrowitz de
cided that her experience painting
last year was so wonderful that
she has signed up to paint and be
a model this year. “It was an up
lifting experience,” she said.
Last year artists painted flow
ers, abstracts, faces, and multiple
colors on women’s torsos to create
human paintings. The paintings
were photographed by volunteer
female photographers and the im
ages were mounted and blown up
into visual pieces of art. Over
$10,000 was raised.
This year’s Celebrate the Ta
Tas has been fortunate to get sup
port from multiple corporations,
doctors, vendors, and individual
donors, including Sientra, Snyder
Lance, Myriad Genetics, Counsyl
Genetics, EventQuest USA, St.
John Photography, Eklipse and
more.
The second annual Big Reveal,
“Celebrate the Ta Tas” is sched
uled for October 24. The photo
graphs will be unveiled at the
“Big Reveal” at the Mint Museum
Uptown. A poster consisting of all
the photographs of the Ta Tas
paintings and individual photo
graphs of paintings will be avail
able for order at the “Big Reveal.”
Attendees will have the oppor
tunity to hear and interact with
Marcie Natan, National President
of Hadassah, Maureen O’Boyle,
WBTV News 3 Lead Anchor, and
Dr. Arlene Sussman, Director of
Breast Imaging, Brookhaven Me
morial Hospital. All proceeds
from Celebrate the Ta Tas will go
to Hadassah Breast Cancer re
search.
“The Big Reveal at the Mint
Museum Uptown offers the public
the opportunity to participate in an
amazingly creative way to support
breast cancer research. Whether or
not you have personally been af
