The Charlotte Jewish News -November 2013 - Page 10 VUomeKi/V hJewy The Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah Gets the Job Done By Patricia Johnson, president, Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah If you want a project to come to fruition, if you want an initia tive to have a follow-up, you think of Hadassah. Hadassah is more than an organization; it’s a family - a family that loves and is loved. - Elie Wiesel Powered by volunteers and supporters the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah has always been in novative creating programs that service the community and engag ing opportunities to raise funds for medical advancement and re search. From the Charlotte Jewish Di rectory to Health Night to the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival and many other programs, it only takes one motivated Hadassah leader to create a viable initiative which is enjoyed by our commu nity year after year. In October, we held our 2nd Annual Celebrate the Ta Tas Pro gram. The Charlotte community once again embraced this program as 100 women participated in the painting events. We celebrated by the hundreds and we more than tripled the funds raised from last year. Regional and National Hadassah leaders have taken no tice and this program has been identified to be deployed nation ally. I can’t wait to see what to gether we are able to accomplish in the next coming year. I would like to express my grat- CAS s/^ itude to our board members, com mittee chairs and volunteers for their hard work and support. Many of you have worked tire lessly, some in more than one committee at the same time, to make all that we do possible. I hope you are as proud of our Charlotte Chapter as I am. Happy Chanukah. Some say that Jewish mothers are the most maligned women found in movies and tele vision. You know who they are: the caricature of the overbearing, long-suffering mother with moun tains of food. Through hilarious clips of classic films, rare Yiddish films, and even recent Israeli movies, filmmaker Schwarz ex amines the stereotypes versus the reality. Sponsoring organizations of this fall film series (formerly known as The Charlotte Jewish Film Society) are The Charlotte Jewish Film Festival and the Levine Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center.
