If you’ve seen the signs around Shalom Park promoting the Fam ily to Family campaign of Jewish Family Services, maybe you’ve wondered where the money goes and how many families are helped during this annual fundraising ef fort. Of maybe you’ve heard of JFS, but aren’t exactly sure of what it does or whom it serves. Founded in 1980, JFS has evolved from an agency serving Jewish Russian immigrants, sen iors, and the financially needy to one that provides a full range of professional, licensed counseling, and social service assistance to the entire Greater Charlotte commu nity. Today, Jewish Family Services collaborates with every Jewish agency in our community, as well as many agencies throughout Charlotte. While JFS program ming and services have grown and changed over time, the agency’s core mission is still to strengthen and empower individ uals and families through profes sional counseling, programs, and services inspired by Jewish val ues. Each year, JFS launches our “Family to Family” annual fundraiser. The campaign is named for recognizing that we have become more than friends with our community; we have be come family. Family is the core of JFS. As our slogan says, we are “the heart of our community.” But more than that, family is the heart of JFS. JFS plays an integral part in the lives of countless families in the Charlotte area. From therapeutic groups for children experiencing social issues, to counseling for the young adult starting out on a life of independence, to parenting classes and workshops for fami lies, to providing connections be tween senior adults and their out-of-town family members, JFS’ positive and pervasive im pact can be felt everywhere. In order to meet the diverse needs of our growing community and re spond to changing economic con ditions, Jewish Family Services has continued to expand our pro grams and services. Naturally it takes significant support to ensure that such a valu able resource continues to be available to the community. Fund ing for JFS comes from three pri mary sources: allocations from Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and program grants; client fees and insurance reim bursements; and contributions from our donors. Of these sources, over half of our $750,000 budget is funded directly from contributions from our generous donors. Donations to our annual cam paign are used to set the budget for the next fiscal year, dictating the programs and services we are able to offer to the community. The generosity of our community makes it possible for Jewish Fam ily Services to meet the growing numbers of those who seek our help. Be Part of the Family Your tax-deductible gift to the 2013 Family to Family annual campaign gives you and your family the opportunity to join JFS in ensuring stability, dignity and compassion to all members of our community for generations to come. Your pledge will help people help themselves. Your gift will counsel the children who are watching their parents divorce; it will pay the utility bill for the young couple who lost their jobs; it will provide companionship for homebound adults; it will secure Shabbat services for those in as sisted living. And it will allow this important work to continue into the future. The JFS Family to Family An nual Campaign positions us to take care of each other — to repair the community we live in — for another generation. Please make your donation today and be part of the JFS family.
