The Charlotte Jewish News - November 2013 - Page 14 Chanukah at the Jewish Preschool on Sardis At The Jewish Presehool on Sardis, we love a good eelebra- tion. There are things we eelebrate daily: eoming to a warm and lov ing sehool, the milestones ehil- dren reaeh, or the end of a fulfilling day. And there are things we eelebrate as they arise: to date we’ve had several Shabbat send offs, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kip- pur, Sukkot, and Simehat Torah. Our latest eelebration is meeting and exeeeding our Levine Foun dation ehallenge. Many thanks to our new and inereased donors, to our “elosing” donor Chris Epstein and espeeially the Leon Levine Foundation for the tremendous support. Our next big eelebration is just around the eomer and we ean’t wait to eelebrate Chanukah. I went to ask the teaehers what they think makes Chanukah spe- eial at the Jewish Presehool on Larry Horowitz, CLU, ChFC Financial 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 608 Charlotte, NC 28210 (704) 556-9982, Fax (704) 369-2918 www.L2financial.com Helping in the CREATION, PRESERVATION & DISTRIBUTION of your Estate Securities and Investment Advisory Services offered through H. Last year, she was paired up with a speeial friend, Jeremy Alpem Cantor. He was wheelehair bound and did not eommunieate like we do. They were bowling buddies, and even though he eouldn’t walk, talk, or even throw his own bowling ball, together they had a blast. Caley eould tell he loved it by his great smile and his sounds. Jeremy died this past February and it broke her heart. She had started volunteering for Friend ship Cirele so she eould make a differenee in her “speeial friends’” lives, but it ended up being the op posite. Jeremy impaeted her life so greatly. “I learned so mueh from him in a short amount of time,” she says, “like you don’t have to speak to be heard, and never judge someone before you know them just beeause they are different than you.” Caley has ereated Jeremy’s Jump! It is a 13 hour jump-a-thon that is taking plaee on Sunday, November 24, from 9 AM-10 PM at Sky High Sports at 601 N. Polk St. in Pineville. All money raised will go direetly baek to Friendship Cirele and help the winter and summer eamps beeome a reality for kids with speeial needs. Her hope is to take this nationwide to the other Friendship Cireles around the eountry. Please eheek out her website at www.jeremysjump.eom for more information. ^ Caley Coughlan is an 8th grader at Jay M. Robinson Middle School
