Holocaust Education
Day at Shalom Park
On Tuesday, October 1, 111
8th grade middle school stu
dents from Charlotte Latin
School attended the joint But
terfly Project and Holocaust
Education Day at Shalom Park.
Students participated in learn
ing workshops focused on prej
udice, discrimination, religious
tolerance, and lessons learned
from the Holocaust. Students
had the opportunity to visit the
Margaret and Lou Schwartz
Butterfly Garden and hand
paint ceramic butterflies in
memory of the children who
perished. In addition, students
heard from Holocaust survivor
Suly Chenkin as well as Dor
Hollander, our current Israeli
Shaliach, who made a presenta
tion about modem day Israel.
Rives Wedding, 8th grade
teacher, who accompanied the
students, commented, “I would
love to see this become part of
our curriculum. It definitely
added so much to the students’
reading and discussions in
