We plan to be outdoors at the beauti ful Camp Mindy eampus to have a real “Festival” atmosphere. If it rains, we will be in the Sam Lemer Cultural Hall. We had 36 vendors at our first Arts Festival; featuring eeramies, glass, jewelry, photography, wood, fiber, watereolor, and met als. This year we will have many returning artists and some new ones. Artist Patriek Robertson will be displaying mixed media seulp- tures. Artist Suzanne Nash will showease her eustom jewelry, ere- ating her own original designs featuring fused glass, beads, and a unique wire braiding proeess. She also has a line ealled “Just For You” whieh is ereated from your own repurposed artiele - pin, but ton, earring, a family heirloom that you don’t like as is. “I wanted to do an Arts Festival at the Levine JCC primarily to promote loeal artists, and foster an arts awareness within our JCC eommunity,” said Gwen Orland, Visual Arts Coordinator for the LJCC. “A lot of people think ‘Fit ness Center’ when they see the JCC but I am hopeful that with these kind of events, they will also think ‘Art’ - both visual and per- formanee. Our JCC hallways are enhaneed by beautiful, donated pieees of art and I hope to bring more art minded folks to the LJCC - the festival is one way to do that.” Celena Burnett is a elay artist Charlotte Celena Burnett s whimsical designs who has been teaehing eeramies at the LJCC sinee 2010. Prior to that she had her own teaehing studio in Charlotte ealled The Whirling Wheel. She now foeuses on ereat- ing a whimsieal style of eeramie wall hangings. Celena says that one of her biggest joys is meeting new people who appreeiate hand made art. “I am always touehed when someone wants to take home one of my pieees and I see the happiness on their faees be- eause they really love it.” For more information about the Arts Festival, visit: www.eharlot- tej ee. org/vi sualarts.
