We are so grateful that they had this experience and truly believe that it has positively im pacted them well beyond those impressionable pre-teen/teenage years.” Caren Gale knows first-hand how powerful the connection can be between the madrichim and our special needs students. “Our son has autism, but he wanted to be a Bar Mitzvah. Without the dedication of the madrichim and the Tikvah Charlotte staff, our son’s Bar Mitzvah would not have been possible. So much that mat tered and was felt - both in prepa ration for the day and on that day - would have been lost to us. We would not have seen his diligence, the courage it took to work at something difficult, every day, unprompted. We would not have witnessed the pride our son felt when called to the bimah. We would not have seen how stirring the chants were for our son or how deeply he felt the music. My husband and I would have been robbed of discovering parts of our son not previously known, be cause of autism’s barricades. And finally, we would not have wit nessed the madrichim, beaming as they sat in the sanctuary, mouthing every word of Torah along with our son, Jonathan.” Our teen madrichim acquire are important skills they take to their college experience and be yond. They become active lead ers in Flillel and seek out teaching positions at synagogues near their university campuses. As we are teaching our children, we create teachers for our future. In sharing our pride in the accomplishment of the hundreds of Jewish teens who have participated in this pro gram, come join us and see how bright our future looks.
