The Charlotte Jewish News - August 2014 - Page 17 A Banner Year for the LJCC Kids Tri “Way to go!” “Keep up the good work!” “You ean do it!” Those were just a few of the many ehants heard on Sunday, June 1 as 175 ehildren, ages five to 14, par- tieipated in the 3rd Annual LJCC Kids Triathlon at Shalom Park. It was hard to tell who had the biggest smiles on their faees: the partieipants, the parents, the vol unteers, or the staff of the LJCC, the Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH), and the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program (ASAP). The reasons for those smiles were plentiful. * This year, the LJCC Kids Triathlon, benefitting pediatrie Rehabilitation at LCH and ASAP, raised approximately $16,000 more than the previous year, bringing in more than $55,000 to be divided between LCH and ASAP. The Leon Levine Founda tion onee again awarded a Chal lenge Grant to the Kids Triathlon: if the Kids Triathlon raised $45,000, it would be awarded an additional $15,000 from the Foun dation. Through eorporate spon sorships and individual fundrais ing, that ehallenge was met. * Olympie swimmer Cammile Adams attended the triathlon this year. The kids swarmed around her at the beginning and then smiled from ear to ear as she gave eaeh one a high-five after they eompleted the swimming portion of the event. * Seven ehildren from ASAP partieipated in the event. One ath lete, who had partieipated the first year and had a tough time making it aeross the pool one time, jumped in as the first swimmer of the day and swam aeross the pool twiee this year. * Following the raee, the par tieipants - proudly wearing their medals around their neeks - and their families enjoyed themselves on bounee houses donated by Your Event Souree (Y.E.S.), with food and drinks donated by Earth- Fare, Coea-Cola Bottling Com pany, Publix, Morrison Healtheare, and Whats Water lee, having their faees painted by young volunteers and soeializing Join Moishe House Charlotte as We Celebrate Our One Year Anniversary with a Slew of Exciting August Events Moishe House is a nonprofit organization dedieating to pro moting eommunity among Jewish young adults in their twenties and early thirties.
