The event was ehaired by Jon Simon, Viee President, and eelebrated the dedieation of lay leader ship, volunteers, and staff to the Levine JCC. Roni Fishkin gave an inspiring D’Var Torah to over 130 guests and staff members, reminding them of all the things that bring the eommunity together at the “J.” Roni emphasized to us all of the extraordinary vision of Shalom Park founders, as she took us baek in time to the ineep- tion of the LJCC, sharing tales of humble beginnings. These vision aries followed the simple rule - “if you build it they will eome” and eome they did. Roni also re minded us that the LJCC has an- tieipated and met the needs of the Charlotte Jewish eommunity in subsequent years and we need to eontinue this legaey of outreaeh and good stewardship so that the Levine Jewish Community Center will eontinue to attraet Jews to Shalom Park for generations to eome. 2711 Randolph Road, Suite 205 Charlotte, NC 28207 704-377-2503 Volunteer of the Year; from left to right - Phil Berman, Andy McCleary, and Jodie lagnocco Outgoing Board Direetors, Judy August, Justin Lan, Mark Lemer, Elaine Moody, and Chan- tal Rubin were honored for their serviee to the LJCC. The 2014-2015 Nominating Committee members, George Cronson, Jill Dinerman, Staey Goreliek, Seott Menaker, Staei Mond, and Mark Perlin were thanked for their diligenee and sueeess in seleeting a strong slate of eandidates for the Board of Trustees. The proposed slate of Offieers and Direetors presented to and unanimously approved by the general membership were Of fieers Elise Kosofsky (President), Miehael Baumstein (VP), Glenda Bernhardt (VP), David Cohen (VP), George Cronson (Trea surer), Jon Simon (VP), David Van Glish (Past President), and Direetors John Box, Jonathan Braekis, Jeremy Davids, Stuart Goldstein, Seott Goreliek*, Julia Greenfield*, Annie Lord*, Raizel Kahn, Penny Lipsitz*, Staei Mond, Mark Perlin, Andrew Rosen*, Larry Sehwartz, Rebeeea Stem*, Jeff Turk*, and Robert Valenstein (*New Direetors). Elise Kosofsky, President, spoke of the Levine Jewish Com munity Center as the Jewish eon- neetion for every Jewish family in Charlotte. As examples, Elise spoke of the Aquaties Complex as destination plaee for young Jewish families to eonneet along with ensuring that we maintain our “home away from home” to the highest of stan dards. Our “TOGETHER WE CAN” eapital eampaign will allow the LJCC to eontinue to serve our Jewish eommunity in the enhaneement and enriehment of their lives. Program Serviee Awards were then presented to Alan Goldberg, Mindy Kir- shbaum, Judy Mareo, Len Mareo, Bill Sehwartz, and Lori Semel for their out standing volunteer efforts on behalf of the Buherfly Projeet. Benjamin Sehwartz, Jeff Turk, and Riek Willenzik were given Program Serviee Awards for their volunteer leader ship of the Charlohe Jewish Film Festival. Camp Soar volunteer Mike Lieberman was honored for his dedieated work, as was “the JCC’s offieial photographer,” Peter Safir. Senior and Adult Direetor Jodie lagnoeeo presented the Volunteer of the Year to Andrea MeCleary. with and often goes above and beyond these 12 hours, pro viding transportation and support during off-hours. Judy August, Past President and long time Board member, reeeived the eoveted President and Exeeu- tive Direetor’s Award for being an integral leader of the Levine Jewish Community Center sinee 1994. Barbara Zeigler was given the privilege of speaking about Judy and spoke of her many aeeomplishments to our eommu nity and the Levine JCC in partie- ular. Many were unaware that Judy, along with Linda Gold smith, was the founder of Jammin at the J, whieh has attraeted over 54,000 middle sehool ehildren throughout the years. Notably, Judy was key in getting our But terfly Projeet “off the ground,” leading a fund-raising program that raised over $320,000 for the building of the Margaret and Louis Sehwartz Garden and ereat- ing edueational workshops for Holoeaust edueation. Phil Berman, CEO, spoke of the value, importanee and eom- mitment of the staff in every faeet of the Levine Jewish Community Center. He expressed his appreei- ation to all staff members for their skill and dedieation. He and Karen Maniloff, Assoeiate Exee- utive Direetor, reeognized the fol lowing staff milestones and aehievements: Five Year Anniversary - Lyn Addy and Elsa Safir Program Awards - Bob Al- lensworth (Tennis), Cathy Bennett (Fitness), and Susan Gundersheim (Fine Arts) Outstanding Employee 2014 - Patty Toreellini (Miss Patty) In elosing, Jon Simon thanked everyone for their eontinued sup port of the LJCC and for their par- tieipation in the evening’s festivities. ^ New Board of Directors; from left to right - Jeff Turk, Andrew Rosen, Rebecca Stern, Penny Lipsitz, Annie Lord, Scott Goreliek, and David VanGlish Andrea grew up in Charlotte and returned to her home eity three years ago.
