“To Life!” Jewish Tradition: Endurance,
Home, and Change
The Davidson College
Theatre Department, in
eollaboration with other
eampus and eommunity
organizations, will host a
series of events and lee-
tures spotlighting the joy
and resilieney of Judaism
in Ameriea. The sympo
sium begins February 9
and eulminates with the
eollege’s produetion
of Fiddler on the Roof,
Mareh 20-29.
The multifaeeted sym
posium ineludes a Jewish
festival (featuring food, danee,
and family aetivities), and a vari
ety of leetures and panels of lead
ing experts who will explore
questions of balaneing one’s eul-
ture and faith against the tensions
of progressive ehange, all through
the lens of Fiddler on the Roof.
All symposium events are free
and open to the publie. Tiekets

The Departments of Musie and
Theatre at Davidson College will
present this Tony award- winning
musieal. Musie by Jerry Boek and
lyries by Sheldon Hamiek; book
by Joseph Stein. Direeted by Ann
Marie Costa; musie direeted by
Jaequelyn Culpepper; eondueted
by Tara Villa Keith.
A beloved ieon of musieal the
atre, Fiddler on the Roof tells the
story of a Jewish family faeing so-
eial and politieal upheaval in a
1905 Russian village. Presented in
eollaboration with the Musie De
partment, this must-see produe
tion is one for the entire family.
Reeommended for ages 11 and
up.

Here we grow, again. With the
addition of our infant room,
eomes additional staff. Ms. De-
nora Edwards joins us this year as
an infant teaeher for the afternoon
shift.
Denora isn’t new to JPS, how
ever. She found her way to us a
eouple years baek, as she was
eompleting her B.A. from Bel
mont Abbey College as an eduea-
tion major. In her seareh for a
quality presehool praetieum expe-
rienee, Denora sought out the
Jewish Presehool on Sardis. It was
a great fit from day one. Even be
fore her graduation, Denora began
substituting for many elassrooms
in the building. Onee she finished
praetieum, we eouldn’t resist the
opportunity to hire Denora as an
extended day teaeher for the 2014-
2015 sehool year.
What makes Denora so spe-
eial? Where do we begin? Her nat
ural love of ehildren. Her innate
drive to help anyone, partieularly
young ehildren. Her helpful and

nationally renowned per
formanee studies, theater,
and feminist seholars. At
noon on Mareh 22, they
will diseuss Fiddler in the
eontext of 1960s Ameriea
and the eontemporary rep
resentation of Jews in pop
eulture. This event is free

visiting with family and playing
