The Charlotte Jewish News - March 2015 - Page 5 Community News Moishe House March Events Moishe House is a nonprofit organization dedieated to promot ing eommunity among Jewish young adults in their twenties and early thirties, seeking to fill the void that often exists after gradu ating eollege and prior to “settling down.” The organization, with 75 houses in 17 eountries, brings to gether Jewish adults who live to gether and plan loeal programs, both home-based and external, for other young Jewish adults. Moishe House Charlotte began in August 2013 and has hosted over 95 events ranging from serviee projeets to soeial events to Jewish learning and more. Its eurrent res idents are Diana Warth, Elana Congress, Audrey Singer, Danielle Soowal, and Matt Hirsehl. Here are our Mareh events: 1. Share the Love Purim Party — Saturday, Mareh 7 at 7 PM at Moishe House Share the Love with Moishe House and Torah on Tap with a eo-sponsored Purim Party on Mareh 7 starting at 7 PM at the Moise House. Wear your best eos- tume and eome prepared to have fun; we’ll have musie playing all night for daneing, and drinks and noshes will be provided. In the spirit of Purim, the entranee fee will be two eanned goods to do nate to the Jewish Family Serv- iees’ food pantry. 2. Mr. Mareh’s Old Sehool Video Game Night — Mareh 3 at 7:30 PM at Moishe House Join Mr. Mareh and the Moishe House for a flashbaek to the glory days you spent playing Mario Kart in your parents’ basement. We will have old sehool gaming systems sueh as Sega and N64 and relive the video games of our youth through a Mario Kart tour nament. We eneourage all partiei- pants to bring any old sehool video game system and/or video game that they would like to play. Amazingly-staeked fruit plates, drinks, and other snaeks will be provided. Finally, you’ll be able to purehase a Charlotte Niee Jewish Boys Calendar during the event and get it autographed by Mr. Mareh himself. Feed your FOMO and make sure to join us for this speeial evening. 3. Good Deeds Day with JFS — Mareh 15 at 6:30 PM at Moishe House Join the Moishe House resi dents as we partieipate in Interna tional Good Deeds Day on Mareh 15. We are partnering with Jewish Family Serviees and UNCC Hillel students to provide food for the elderly on Passover. Come to the Moishe House on Mareh 15 at 6:30 PM to deeorate the bags that will later eontain items for a Passover eelebration. In early April, we will sort the food and put the bags together for delivery. Arts and erafts supplies and snaeks will be provided. We will be eolleeting non-perishable items over the next month to put in the bags, so we would greatly appre- eiate donations of jars of gefilte fish, horseradish, matzah ball soup mix, Passover eandies, mae- aroons, matzah or Tam Tam eraekers, and grape juiee. 4. Banff Film Festival - Mareh 22 at 6:30 PM at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center The 2014/2015 Banff Film Fes tival makes its stop in Charlotte at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on Mareh 22. The Banff Mountain Film Festival is the world’s largest mountain festival in the world. Short films bring you to exotie and beautiful loea- tions internationally, with moun tain and aetion sports as the eommon thread. Eaeh tieket eosts $12, and you ean buy them in ad- vanee online at the Blumenthal website. Meet at the theater at 6:30 PM; the film starts at 7 PM. 5. Havdalah Sing-a-long with Chabad - Mareh 28 at 8:30 PM at Moishe House Come partieipate in one of the most beautiful and short serviees in Judaism—Havdalah, the elos- ing of Shabbat. Bring your instru ments. Don’t worry if you are unfamiliar with Havdalah; we will learn the prayers together, diseuss their meaning, and offer some new insights we learned on the Shabbat Innovations Learning Re treat. Our friends from Chabad will make this experienee extra speeial. Come sing, drum, and see where the night takes us. 6. Java Jews with with Torah on Tap and Moishe House — Monday, Mareh 30 at 7 PM at the Director of Veteran’s Services Speaks to Veterans Are you a veteran? Do you have questions about your bene fits? Do you need help with navi gating the system? Do you want answers about benefits for your spouse or ehildren? You are invited to a meeting of the Jewish War Veterans for a questions and answers meeting with James Prosser, the Direetor of Veteran Serviee’s Division, Meeklenburg County. Join us on Sunday, Mareh 22 at Temple Beth El, 10-11:30 AM.
