The Charlotte Jewish News - June-July 2015 - Page 5 Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center Best of the Best: Jewish Education for Adults T hr Jr wish Fr clc r ct L it jn The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning has been named the “best of the best” inter nationally. From Great Britain, to Australia, Hong Kong and South Africa, the Melton world-class curriculum sets the standard for high-quality, pluralistic Jewish study that inspires adult learners from all knowledge-levels and backgrounds. Charlotte’s own Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning has been enjoyed by 285 students over the past five years. The Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte are proud to sponsor the “best of best” in adult Jewish education right here in our community. Here is what our students have to say: “Melton classes are so different than what I remember of my He brew school days. At first reluc tant to commit to 10 or 20 weeks of a session I decided to try one class. That was it; I was hooked. The topics are interesting, instruc tors enlightening and well pre pared, discussions and opinions and thoughts of classmates amaz ing. I am finishing my third year with Melton and hope to continue. It’s one of the better offerings for adults searching for answers, ex panding knowledge and enjoying being Jewish.” -Len Marco “I am currently taking the Kab- ballah class with Rabbi Groner; I must say my expectations have been exceeded beyond measure. Rabbi Groner is an exceptional teacher with a deep understanding of the subject matter. He is able to take a subject that is quite abstract to the uninitiated and bring it to a level that one can begin to under stand. The class is well worth the time and expense.” - Chad Sganga “For those in the community who know me, you have probably already heard me say how much I love Melton, and I have probably already tried to recruit you. My friends know that I would give up anything on a Thursday evening if it interfered with attending my Melton Classes. Why am I so ded icated? The Melton class has im proved me in so many ways and has made me so proud to be Jew ish. Although I was educated at a Jewish day school in Montreal, it wasn’t until I started taking Melton Classes that I started to re ally appreciate and gain a deeper understanding of my Jewish her itage. The Jewish holidays that we celebrate throughout the year have become so much more meaningful to me. I have a much better under standing of the struggles the Jew ish people have endured throughout the centuries. I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the classes and that no preparation is necessary. I can just show up for the 2 hours once a week and sim ply enjoy the learning. I couldn’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend the rare ‘alone time’ I have during the week surrounded by lovely classmates and truly in credible teachers!” -Janice Zacks Are you looking for a profound understanding of what it means to be Jewish?
