Here are just a few: * Forget everything you thought that you knew about Core Classes. This year we are really mixing things up, with new sub- jeets, new groupings, and lots of fun. This year we will offer at least one eleetive eaeh session, that will give the students opportunities to earn eommunity serviee hours. These hours ean be used for elubs and honor soeieties at their seeular sehool. For the first session this year, the elass reeeiving these hours, will be Mr. Green’s “The Greening of Judaism” eleetive. * Opportunities for ereativity abound. Musie, drama, art, eook- ing, and writing eleetives are of fered to meet the interests and needs of all types of learners. There is really something for everyone at Hebrew High. * Post Confirmation (for 11th and 12th graders) will be better than ever. In this very speeial elass, students are given an oppor tunity to express their ideas and feelings about Judaism and Israel in a non-judgmental eommunity of peers. This is espeeially important at this time, when our young adults are being ehallenged on eampuses everywhere. * New eleetives that are eoop- erative endeavors with the ICC (Environmental elass above) and with JFS. The JFS elass (ealled Reality Cheek) will explore teen lives and their struggles in eon- temporary soeiety. Taught by the staff at Jewish Family Serviees, this will be a non-judgmental A dreidel contest. plaee for teens to share experi- enees and gain insight into how to eope with being a teen in the 21 st Century. * Amazing faeulty - Rabbis, Cantors, and professional teaehers all help make our sehool a wel- eoming, and earing environment. These amazing role models help students learn how to balanee their seeular and Jewish lives. BBYO Starts New Year with Exciting Programs By Sam Abadi Sehool has started and BBYO is in full swing. In August, we weleomed new Co-City Direetors Jamie Bryan and me. Jamie and I are seasoned advisors exeited to transition into our new roles working with the teens to develop unique eitywide programs and oversee BBYO in our eommunity. It’s been a busy eouple of months. Take a look at what BBYO teens have been up to: * Nearly 100 teens kieked off the year with a eolor war event at Camp Mindy. Old friends and new members bonded over games, physieal ehallenges and enjoyed a sweet treat from King of Pops. Members of Hank Greenberg AZA are look ing for you. * Over 144 teens joined us in Greens boro, NC for Eastern Regional Exees Con vention. We were thrilled to weleome 14 teens from Dixie Couneil (SC and southern GA) to our event. The foeus of the weekend was leadership develop ment, working with your eouneil eounterparts, analyzing ehapter strengths and weaknesses, and setting membership and program ming goals for the year. It was fun, edueational, and inspiring. * September was a festive month. The teens developed ere- ative programs foeused on refieetion and eelebrating the Holidays. We gathered in the Sukkah at the ICC to eele- brate Sukkot in a eitywide program. Pizza in the Hut. * In addition, new mem bers visited the different ehapters and got a taste of the unique teen-led programs BBYO offers. The teens will spend the weekend of Oetober 16 - 18 at Camp Weaver in Greens boro, NC with teens from around Eastern Region and Dixie Coun eil.
