The Charlotte Jewish News - October 2015 - Page 19 Jump for Friendship - Part III Over 600 people are ex- peeted at the 3rd annual Je remy’s Jump, the annual Jump-A-Thon benefiting ehil- dren with speeial needs and the Friendship Cirele. The Jump will take plaee on Sunday, November 15 from 12 noon-6 PM at Sky High Sports in Pineville. Spearheaded by 13 year old Friendship Cirele teen volunteer Caley Coughlan, who launehed Jeremy’s Jump to honor the memory of her spe eial friend and bowling buddy, Je remy Alpem, who passed away in The Schlussel family loves Jeremy’s Jump. February 2013. Jeremy’s Jump’s goal is to pro mote aeeeptanee of ehildren and teens with speeial needs and raise funds for the Friend ship Cirele. The Friendship Cirele pairs teen friends with ehil dren who have speeial needs for range of soeial and edu- eational opportunities in eluding its flagship home visitation program ealled Friends @ Home. S YNA GOGUES^^ONGREGATIONS Hey, Ballantyne, Temple Kol Ami is Just Around the Corner Temple Kol Ami may be lo- eated in Fort Mill, SC but we are just a hop, skip and a jump around the eomer from the Ballantyne area of Charlotte as well as Indi- anland. For those residing in these areas, we would love for you to eome and eheek us out. What you will find is a warm and weleom- ing Jewish eommunity. We are an unaffiliated eongregation eom- posed of the diverse Jewish eom munity in the York County area- more traditional Jews, interfaith eouples and families and Jews who may be rediseovering their faith. Our Religious Sehool has grown to over 30 kids who love eoming to Sunday Sehool and are solidifying their identities as Jews (elasses have just started and it’s not too late to enroll your ehild). Tzedakah and tikkun olam, eore prineiples of Judaism, will have even greater foeus for our eongre gation in the eoming year. We re- eently eompleted a food drive during the High Holidays to ben efit Jewish Family Serviees and are planning a CardioFunk (kind of like Zumba but even more fun) session on Oetober 10 in eonjune- tion with Breast Caneer Aware ness month to raise funds for a eaneer or ganization. Addition ally, the Religious Sehool will eomplete a sehool-wide Mitz- vah Projeet this eom ing year whieh will benefit a loeal York County organization. This year’s great event falls on Monday, Oetober 5 at 7:30 PM. The eelebration embraees adults and ehildren together as we re- joiee with the Torah, our most treasured gift from God. A festive holiday dinner will be served along with plenty of L’ehaim for the adults. Children will lead the reeiting of the Torah verses in preparation to the dane- ing. On Simehat Torah all Jews unite, seholar and laymen in the joy and thanksgiving to God for imbuing our souls with the light of Judaism as it is expressed in the Torah. The Simehat Torah eelebration will be held at Congregation Ohr HaTorah, 6619 Sardis Road and is open to the entire eommunity.
