The Charlotte Jewish News - October 2015 - Page 2
Isn’t it exciting the way our community continues to grow? We have expanded
well beyond Shalom Park and our core agencies to as far north as Lake Cornelius and
beyond, down to Ballantyne and farther to Fort Mill; we have expanded by adding
synagogues as well as organizations such as the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival,
Friendship Circle, Shalom Green, and more. Everyone of these agencies has a place
on the pages of The Charlotte Jewish News.
But as our pages and coverage expands, so do our costs for printing and for
mailing. We have expanded our online issue and now appear at a new site, issuu.com,
where you can not only read the current edition, but clip articles and pictures for your
fde; current news and archives are constantly updated at charlottejewishnews.org; we
post the latest events our our Facebook page. But our core news still is printed and
mailed to anyone in the community who wants it.
Please remember that there are agencies who would not be able to get their
message to you without The Charlotte Jewish News. While our main source of income
still remains our advertising, revenues have not increased as our costs to serve our
expanding community have increased. You can help in several ways.
1) Please patronize our advertisers and let them know that you saw their ad on the
pages of The Charlotte Jewish News.
2) Recommend The Charlotte Jewish News to any of your favorite retail stories or

OF GREATER CHARLOTTE
Thanks to the generosity of Tracy Brown, Jewish Federa
tion’s Lions of Judah and Pomegranate Society Members
were treated to a Book and Author Event with Chicago trial
attorney and author Ronald H. Balson. Because Tracy is a
member of the Jewish Book Council, she is able to bring one
author to her home community each year. Ronald Balson, au
thor of the popular book Once We Were Brothers, was a big
draw for this year’s event, which took place on September 9.
Once We Were Brothers, which was originally self-published,
became a “word of mouth” best seller, eventually selling
nearly half a million copies.
The very first copies of Ronald Balson’s new novel Saving
Sophie were sold in Charlotte at this Federation event. Saving
Sophie is the powerful story of the lengths a father will go
through to protect his daughter. Ifs an action-packed heart
pounding thriller that takes readers on a journey of murder
and deception from the courtrooms of Chicago to Hawaii and
the Middle East.
To learn more about becoming a Lion of Judah or a mem
ber of the Pomegranate Society, please contact Sue Littauer
