The Charlotte Jewish News - December 2015 - Page 18 Community News Levine JCC 2015 Annual Meeting L’Dor V’Dor in its truest sense was the theme throughout the Sandra & Leon Levine Jewish Community Center’s 29th Annual Meeting held Oetober 13. Mike Van Glish, ehairperson, weleomed everyone and shared the story of how three generations of the Van Glish family have made the J an important part of their lives so- eially and athletieally. The An nual meeting earried on the LJCC tradition of reeognizing LJCC volunteers, staff, and lay leaders for their dedieated serviee and en gaging programs. The evening of fered an opportunity to thank outgoing leaders and weleome new ones, ineluding new CEO Peter Blair, wife Traei, and sons Hudson and Cohen. Rebeeea Stem gave an inspir ing D’Var Torah, drawing upon Parsha Noaeh. She reminded us of the vision the founding partners shared for Shalom Park and the J, they like Noah, believed in some thing others eould not envision. Rebeeea noted that eaeh genera tion faees erossroads where they have to envision the future, re shape and re-imagine the J. She Outgoing LJCC president Elise Kosofsky with incoming president Jon Simon ealled for the eommunity to mo bilize with Peter to eare and nur ture those shared dreams. Outgoing Board Direetors David Cohen, Stuart Goldstein, Annie Lord, and Mark Berlin were honored for their serviee to the LJCC. Eaeh was presented with a beautiful eeramie mezuzah, made in the LJCC pottery studio. Mark Perlin (President s and Executive Direc tor s Award recipient), LJCC CEO Peter Blair, and David Van Glish Elise Kosofsky, outgoing Pres ident, refieeted on her term with a humorous and engaging twist - a football game “Highlight Reel”. Peter Blair was eited as the J’s new quarterbaek, bringing his strengths of relational eommunity building, finaneial leadership, vi sion and a passion for Jewish life. Phil Berman, outgoing LJCC CEO, was named MVP for his 10 years of outstanding leadership. Elise reported that the LJCC now has over 4800 Jewish members, from the ages of seven weeks to over 100 years, eurrently partiei- pating in Jewish pro grams. Elise praised LJCC staff members for their dedieation and warm relationships with mem bers and eoneluded her remarks by ealling on the eommunity to support the LJCC’s Capital Campaign - from Generation to Generation. She noted that sinee the eompletion of the “new building” 10 years ago, LJCC member ship has grown over 37% and said the time is now to build for the next generation, just as was done for us by earlier members of Charlotte’s Jewish Community. Pledges reeeived by Deeember 31 will have a double impaet, as they will be matehed by a generous grant from Sandra and Leon LJCC CEO Peter Blair, Traci Blair, Cohen Blair, and Lfudson Blair Levine, Julie and Howard Levine, and Lori and Erie Sklut. Ineoming President, Jon Simon thanked Elise for being a transfor mational leader for the board through the CEO seareh. Jon spoke about genuine relationships - “JLationships” - the ones that are forged at the J over time and bound together through experi- enees - between members, staff and eommunity. He thanked the staff, mem bers and eommunity for all they do for the J and laid out his vision for the next two years. He will foeus upon sueeessfully eompleting the Capital Campaign, ensuring the next generation of lay leader development, eon- tinuing exeellent eus- tomer serviee, and enhaneing donor reeog- nition through our stew ardship program. Jon asked that the eommu nity use their relation ships to eontinue to build for the next generation. Program Serviee Awards were then presented to the following outstanding volunteers: Marie Diehoso-Beavers, Beth Goldman, Karen Kaplan, Rebeeea Levy, Inna Manoim, and Audrey Pearlman (Aquaties) Linda Hindel (Tennis) Mark Freedman (JTribes) Mare Wojnowieh, Volunteer of the Year, was introdueed by his friend Erie Lemer. Erie noted that Mare was a leader who would not likely deseribe himself as sueh. LJCC CEO Peter Blair, Marc Wojnowieh (Volunteer of the Year), Eric Lerner and David Van Glish Mare has volunteered with the J Charity Golf Tournament, served on the Board of Direetors of Fed eration, their Alloeations eommit tee and eo-ehaired the Bernstein Leadership Group. Mare’s legaey of volun teering is one that has been passed down - L’Dor V’Dor. In 1995 his mother, Lori, was reeognized as the LJCC Volunteer of the Year. Mark Perlin, longtime Board member and friend of the J, re eeived the eoveted President and Exeeutive Direetor’s Award for being an integral leader of the eommunity and the LJCC. David Van Glish had the privilege of speaking about his father-in-law’s many aeeomplishments as a eom munity volunteer, board member, and past president at Temple Beth El, board member of the LJCC and his key involvement as ehair- man of the Create Your Jewish Legaey (CJL) for the LJCC. The eommittee seeured 64 legaey gifts to the J ereating Mark’s own vol unteer legaey. This was aehieved through his usual formula of part nership, eneouragement, and tire less effort. Peter Blair, CEO, reeognized the value, importanee, and eom- mitment of the staff in every faeet of the LJCC, espeeially this past year during the transition proeess. Peter and senior management pre sented staff awards to the follow ing: Milestone Anniversaries: Cathy Bennett, Dee Cooper, Kristi Fallowes, Annette Haynes and Missy Sehomaker (5 years), Miteh Ormand (15 years), Stephanie Gamer (20 years), and Suzie DeSamo (25 years) Program Service Awards: JChildeare, JTots, and JTeam De partments Outstanding Program Award: Aquaties Department Outstanding Employee 2015: Elsa Safir, LJCC Creative Diree- tor Peter Blair, LJCC CEO, shared his vision with the eommunity. It is a vision foeused upon relation ships. In one seetion of his re marks, he shared, “When you look at what a sueeessful JCC does at its eore - and the Levine JCC is a sueeessful JCC - it builds a eom munity, it builds relationships.” He thanked our eommunity for joining with the JCC this past year in relationship.
