The Charlotte Jewish News - December 2015 - Page 5 Ole, Ole! It’s a Fiesta! By Carol Klein, Pre-K Lead Teacher At CJP, the Pre-K eurrieulum in part foeuses on learning about the eulture and geography of eoun- tries around our world. Eaeh year, our Pre-K ehildren use their won derful imaginations as we board our airplane and travel to other lands. We learn where the eoun- tries are loeated on our world map and find the best route to travel there. When we arrive in eaeh eountry, the ehildren get their Pre- K Passport stamped. Our first destination this sehool year was Mexieo. The ehildren worked on erafts, eostumes, and songs in preparation for our elass Fiesta. They eut and painted their sombreros and ponehos and eounted out 10 beans, in Spanish, to fill their maraeas. Our Pre-K ehildren worked on a deeorative Mexiean eraft known as a Papel Pieado. They eaeh eut designs out of eolorful folded pieees of tissue paper. When they were all eom- pleted, we strung them together to make a banner whieh was hung at our Fiesta. The ehildren also learned about, and ereated beauti ful Mexiean Amate Paintings, (a Mexiean folk art where artisans paint eolorful seenes from nature on tree bark). The ehildren were very exeited about helping to make our two pinatas for the Fi esta. Eaeh ehild had a ehanee to work with the paper maehe to eover the balloons. When they were dry and hardened, the ehil dren eut eolorful erepe paper streamers to deeorate the pinatas. Many thanks to all of our Pre-K parents, who eontributed the goodies to fill our pinatas. Our CJP musie teaehers, Ms. Patty and Ms. Naney helped our ehildren prepare several songs to sing at our Fiesta, ineluding singing the days of the week in Spanish. Finally, our Fiesta day arrived. That morning, the ehildren pre pared a tasty layered dip for our tortilla ehips, while several of our Pre-K Parents helped to eook que- sadillas and set up the food for our Fiesta. The ehildren wore their eolorful ponehos and sombreros and shook their maraeas as they daneed into the room. They were so happy to join the parents and grandparents who were waiting to enjoy our Fiesta with us. The ehil dren did a great job of performing the Mexiean songs for their guests, who then joined them in daneing the Mexiean Flat Danee. We then all enjoyed the yummy Mexiean snaek. The highlight for most of our ehildren was getting a ehanee to swing our pinata stiek and break open the two pinatas. It was a very exeiting day for all of our Pre-K ehildren and their guests. We are all now looking forward to our next destination ... England, where we will be having tea with the Queen. ^ Charlotte Jewish Preschool LEARN * CROW - CONNECT The Pre-K kids at CJP had a fiesta in “Mexico ” with eating, dancing, and more.
