The Charlotte Jewish News - March 2016 - Page 23 Congregation Celebrates Purim, Hosts Artsy Workshop Havurat Tikvah will hold com munity Shabbat services on March 5, 10 AM at Avondale Presbyterian Church, Aitken Classroom, 2821 Park Rd. Kid- dush will follow. The community is welcome to attend. A Purim mask making will be held on March 13, 1-3 PM at Strawberry Hill Clubhouse, 5101 Strawberry Hill Dr. Rick Crown will lead participants in the cre ation of artistic, one-of-a-kind crafted holiday masks. Crown is a former associate professor of art at Queens University of Charlotte where he spent 38 years teaching and mentoring students in the Art Department. He received his Mas ters in Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He now spends his time havural';i^4iop€ in his own studio fashioning pottery and sculpting. To celebrate Purim, a fes tive Megillah reading will take place on March 23, 8 PM at Avondale Presbyte rian Church, McLean Fel lowship Hall, 2821 Park Rd. Charlie Brown will be the reader during this joyous celebration and groggers will be provided. Brown serves as the cantor for Tem ple Emanuel in Gastonia and is also a member of Havurat Tikvah. Attendees can enjoy hamentashen along with the fellowship of the congregational family. This event is open to the community. Havurat Tikvah is a warm, supportive and nur turing Jewish Reconstructionist congregation with Shabbat serv ices and a full spectrum of holiday observances, as well as religious educational options for both adults and children. We are a di verse group of families, singles, and Jewish and interfaith couples who participate in projects that promote social justice. We value and depend upon member participation and leader ship for our religious services.
