Yom Huledet Same’ach, Israel -
Happy Birthday, Israel
By Inbal Ozeri, Community Shlicha
Let’s join together to eelebrate
Israel’s Independenee Day. On
Thursday, May 12 at 6 PM, please
join me in the Sam Lemer Center
for Cultural Arts for our annual
Yom Hazikaron eeremony to re-
speetfully thank the people whom
without them we wouldn’t be able
to eelebrate Israel Independenee
Day. We will then eelebrate Yom
Ha’atzmaut with a fun eoneert by
the Band, “Halehakah,” eom-
prised of three former Israeli De
fense Forees soldiers. The eoneert
will be held in Goreliek Hall.
This transition from powerful,
painful sadness that eaeh and
every one of us feels on Yom
Hazikaron-Memorial Day to hap
piness and hope is one of the pow
erful foundation stones of the state
of Israel and the people of Israel.
I wish to share this very personal
feeling with all of you and for
every eommunity member to join
in this amazing day, to try and un
derstand what goes on in the
minds and hearts of Israelis during
Shabbat Candle Lighting

The Jews’ “Secret Fleet”
Come hear Murray Greenfield
talk about his experienee sailing a

into British Mandated Palestine,
Wednesday, June 15 in the Sam

Murray Greenfield was bom,

he heard about the Aliyah Bet - or
“illegal immigration” - as the
British termed the reseue of Jews
who survived the Holoeaust.
Greenfield was one of 240 Amer-
iean volunteers who sailed on
“mst buekets” and ultimately
helped reseue and reloeate 40% of
Holoeaust survivors to Palestine.
After spending time in a British
prison on the isle of Cypms with
his entire shipload of refugees,
Greenfield eventually moved to
Palestine. It is said that these ships
