The Charlotte Jewish News - November 2016 - Page 3 Silver Circle Appreciation Luncheon The Jewish Federation’s Silver Cirele and Create a Jewish Legaey Reeognition and Appreei- ation Luneheon was held on Thursday, September 22 at Tem ple Beth El. The event was eo- ehaired by Silver Cirele and Legaey Soeiety members, Elaine and Marty Sehefflin, and their daughter and son-in-law, Staeey and Ira Slotnka. “This event is very speeial beeause it is about loyalty to the Jewish Federation and the Annual Campaign - regardless of the amount of your gift,” said Jeff Turk, ehair of the 2017 Annual Campaign. The Silver Cirele Soeiety honors donors who have donated to the Jewish Federation Annual Campaign for 25 years or more, and The Legaey Soeiety in- eludes all eommunity members who have made a planned gift to benefit the Jewish Federation. “I did not find the world deso late when I entered it. And as my parents planted for me, so do I plant for my ehildren. This quote from the Talmud signifies what legaey giving means to us,” said Staeey Slomka, as she weleomed over 50 people to the event. “Our grandparents gave to their Jewish eommunities, our parents give to their Jewish eommunity, and we give to our Jewish eom munity. The legaey left by our grandparents, the generosity of our parents, and hopefully, the example we set for our ehildren, are the seeds we plant that will eontinue to grow and flourish in our Jewish eommunity. Just as eaeh family has its own Jewish traditions - tearing the ehallah instead of eutting it; using linger puppets during the Seder, or saying the sh’ma at bedtime with the kids - so is giving tzedakah. Giving tzedakah is a Jewish tradition in all of our families. And Legaey Giving needs to be part of that tradition as well. We’ve reaped the benefits of the generosity of the generations before us, and it is our obligation to provide the same for the gener ations to eome. L’dor va’dor - from generation to generation,” eoneluded Staey. At the event.
