The Charlotte Jewish News - December 2016 - Page 5 School CJDS Hosts Prizmah Governance and Fundraising Academy CJDS is proud to have been ehosen to host the eonferenee for Prizmah’s GFA aeademy this November. Over 70 day sehool edueators from all over North Ameriea met on November 13-15 at Shalom Park to study, learn, and network for three days. Kosher Charlotte (CJDS Catering) entered the event, and CJDS, along with assisting with the lo- gisties, proudly shared the sehool, eity and eampus with our guests. Prizmah is the eenter for Jew ish Day Sehools. Prizmah’s Govemanee and Fundraising Aeademy (GFA) is designed to in- erease a sehool’s finaneial sustain ability by strengthening its govemanee and fundraising pro gram. The GFA aeeomplishes sev eral vitally important overarehing goals. It... 1. Generates alignment among our professional and lay leaders around a govemanee system that embraees fundraising responsibil ity to the fullest extent. 2. Provides training that en- riehes our development team’s ability to ereate a eomprehensive plan, defines the professional and lay leadership roles needed to im plement that plan, and inerease the eapaeity of team members. 3. Develops strategies and builds skills in essential areas, ineluding annual eampaign planning, donor rating, and as signment, Moves Management planning and exeeution, and donor eultivation teehniques. In addition, CJDS, being a small sehool in a relatively small eommunity, will be eligible for up to $100,000 in matehing grant funds through an anonymous Jewish day sehool supporter for the aehievement of speeified fundraising milestones. GFA is designed to inerease a sehool’s finaneial sustainability by strengthening its govemanee and fundraising program. A sehool with a strong eulture of philan thropy eombines best praetiees in govemanee, professional leader ship, and fundraising. As an 18- month eurrieulum eonstmeted around a summit, interaetive we binars, and seven days of individ ualized expert eoaehing, the GFA offers the essential support a sehool needs to aehieve transfor mative ehange in fundraising ea paeity. GFA will help transform our development professionals and lay leaders into a high-perfor- manee team. This GFA model, whieh has been implemented under the name Leadership and Fundraising Aeademy (LFA) in more than 50 sehools in five eom- munities, is a proven vehiele for driving our sehool toward fiseal sustainability. This program was initiated by PEJE, the authority in Jewish day sehool govemanee and sustainability with 18 years of ex- perienee, and is being handed over to the new Jewish day sehool au thority, Prizmah. Jewish educators from all over the US attended the Prizmah Governance and Fundraising Academy at Shalom Park, hosted by CJDS k CJDS Charlotte Jewish Day School The Govemanee and Fundrais ing Aeademy program reeognizes that strong govemanee is one of the most eritieal foundational ele ments that a sehool needs in order to aehieve long-term finaneial sustainability. When a sehool’s Board, Development Committee, and professional development team work together, almost any thing is possible. Their proprietary Development Self-Assessment Tool (DSAT) is just one proven tool used in this milestone-driven, 18-month program that builds on PEJE’s 18 years of working with JDS. Prizmah is partnering with The AVI CHAI Foundation and an anonymous Jewish day sehool supporter to offer a seleet number of small day sehools in smaller eommunities an exeeptional op portunity: While the total 18- month program eost is $40,000, thanks to funding from The AVI CHAI Foundation and an anony mous Jewish day sehool sup porter—whieh are eommitted to supporting small sehools and small eommunities—the total eost to partieipating sehools is $5,000. A small sehool in a small eommunity is defined as having 200 or fewer students in a eom munity with a Jewish population of approximately 50,000 or fewer. ^ Larry Horowitz, CLU, ChFC Financial 2815 Coliseum Centre Drive, Ste. 200 Charlotte, NC 28217 704-609-7505 FAX: 704-369-2918 www.L2financial.com Helping in the CREATION, PRESERVATION & DISTRIBUTION of your Estate Securities and Investment Advisory Services offered through representatives of Lincoln Financial Services, member SIPC.
