The Charlotte Jewish News - February 2017 - Page 20 Vitner Family Establishes Scholarship at CJDS Charlotte Jewish Day Sehool is proud to announee the Vitner Family Seholarship to be awarded annually to one family entering the Charlotte Jewish Day Sehool. This family would demonstrate a eommitment to Jewish eommu- nity and Jewish values through in volvement, engagement, and leadership in the Charlotte Jewish eommunity. Amy and Mark Vitner estab lished this seholarship as a reward to families who have shown an exeeptional eommitment to fur thering Jewish life in Charlotte. Amy and Mark have three ehil- dren who have been students at CJDS, the youngest now in fifth grade. As their ehildren have grad uated and are experieneing sue- eess in sehool and positive growth as individuals, they want to make a Jewish edueation available to more families involved in the Jewish eommunity. Amy, a past President of the Board of Diree- tors at CJDS noted, “We are proud of the edueation and eare that our ehildren have reeeived at CJDS and want more families to benefit from the Jewish values that are in stilled in our ehildren. The seholarship will be awarded annually to one family. The reeipient will reeeive up to $5000 towards CJDS tuition over a three-year period as follows: * Year 1-$1000 * Year 2-$2000 * Year3-$2000 The seholarship is a needs- blind reward for young parents who wish to give their ehildren a quality edueation steeped in Jew ish values, learning, and traditions and are deeply passionate about serving the Jewish eommunity. Minimum eligibility requirement ineludes: * Must be a new family applying to Charlotte Jewish Day Sehool entering grades K-2. * Family shall be a member in good standing at a temple in the Charlotte area. * Minimum sup port of the Federation annual eampaign of $36 for the eurrent eampaign year. * Letter of reeom- mendation from a Jewish organization with whom you are affiliated. * Finaneial need is not an eligi bility faetor. It oeeurred to me last week that I should share the warm fuzzies with everyone, as JPS is just that speeial not only to me, but so many others. I deeided to doeu- ment some of the wonderful thoughts that ehildren and fami lies shared during earpool time over the past week. Mom of three, youngest ehild is the only ehild to attend JPS: “I wish my other kids had gone to JPS.” I told her I reeall her touring the eenter prior to enrolling. “Yea, the lueky kids get to go to JPS.” Mom of two, both attend JPS: “This plaee is sueh a gem. Why ean’t you go through high sehool?” Child in the 4s: “Good morning Ms. Dedee!” I asked, “Are you exeited to start sehool this morn ing?” Child replied, “Fm so ex eited to eome to sehool today. We get to play in the snow.” Parent talking to teaeher: “I so appreeiate the values that you teaeh. It’s not just edueation; you teaeh kids how to be good human beings.” Parent of toddler: “This sehool is like an extension of our family. You’ve been there for eaeh mile stone and helped our baby learn so mueh.” Mom of erying ehild at drop off who then was sueeessfully and quiekly redireeted and engaged in an aetivity: “You are all amazing, thank you for everything.” There are a lot of wonderful things that I overhear.
