We hope you will eome play and pray with us sometime soon.^ Chabad to Celebrate “Hard Hat” Purim Purim, the happiest day on the Jewish ealendar, eomes this year on Sunday, Mareh 12. The festiv ities at Ohr HaTorah will begin on Saturday evening, Mareh 11, with a Purim and Megillah serviee at 7:30 PM. The Purim theme this year is “Hard Hat Purim” as Chabad will soon be entering the pre-eonstruetion stage of their new eenter whieh will be loeated on their existing property at 6619 Sardis Road. “Hard Hat Purim” will invite everyone to eome with a hard hat and dressed as eon- stmetion workers, as they eele- brate the future of Chabad while rejoieing in the festivities of Purim. Purim eelebrates Jewish sur vival and although it took plaee in Aneient Persia in the 4th eentury BCE, it still resonates with us today. There was a reason that Mordeehai and Esther estab lished Purim as an eternal holiday to eommemorate the amazing events of their time. It was the prophetie vision of Esther who re alized that Jews will be languish ing in the Diaspora in future generations and that they will faee similar ehallenges as did the Jews in Persia. By reeording the story of Purim in the Book of Esther (also known as the Megillah), and enaeting speeial observanees on Purim day, she ensured that the lesson she and Mordeehai learned would never be forgotten and will be a souree of eneouragement for thousands of years to eome. What better way to eelebrate our resilienee throughout history than to eelebrate the bright future of Chabad in Charlotte with a pre-eonstruetion Purim party and feast? Jews worldwide eelebrate Purim on the 14th of Adar, while residents of walled eities - like Shushan or Jerusalem - eelebrate on the 15th of Adar. The five mitzvot of Purim are: 1) Reading or listening to the reading of the Megillah (evening and morning); 2) Reeit- ing prayers of thanksgiving; 3) Sending at least two ready-to-eat food items to a friend; 4) Giving tzedaka to at least two poor peo ple; 5) Rejoieing with a Purim feast at the end of the day. Purim is a time of joy and fun - eostumes, sweets and haman- tasehen are very mueh part of the fabrie of this holiday and will be in great abundanee at Ohr HaTorah. The eelebration will eontinue with a grand “Hard Hat Purim” feast on Sunday at 6 PM. The dinner will be held at Sam Lemer Center at Shalom Park. Call 704-366-3984 for more information. The feast will fea ture gourmet pizza of various va rieties/toppings, musie, and a eostume eontest for the best “Jewish Bob the Builder” award. There will be beer and I’ehaim for the adults, and lots of fun for everyone. In addition to the Sun day, 9 AM Megillah reading at the morning serviee, there will be another Megillah reading at 5 PM for those who prefer a later time. The Purim feast is open to all in the eommunity. The eost is $18 per adult and $10 for ehildren under Bar or Bat Mitzvah age. Reservations ean be made online at www.ehabadne.org or by send ing a eheek to Chabad of NC, at tention - Purim Dinner, 6619 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.^ (Congregation MaTorah a project of Lu/xfvt^cft of Norf A Carolina “How wonderful is it that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” -Anne Frank
