One Book, One Jewish Community: Expioring Jewish History in the South through Fiction Featuring Author Mary Glickman, Thursday, December 7, 7 PM Our Jewish ancestors have a long and rich history in the South ern United States. Dating back as early as the mid- 1700s, the South had two established synagogues. Since the inception of the United States as independent nation, the Southern Jewish community had a different American experience than the Northern Jewish commu nity, which contributed to varying attitudes towards the Civil Rights Movement. The differences between North ern and Southern Jews during the tumultuous 1960s are vividly por trayed in the novel Home in the Morning, the book selection of the CJE’s premier One Book, One Jewish Community. Author, Mary Glickman, will share her story with our community on Thursday, December 7 at 7 PM in the Sam Lemer Center for Cultural Arts in Shalom Park. Mary Glickman is the author of three books: Home in the Morn ing, which has been optioned for film; One More River, a 2011 Na tional Jewish Book Award Finalist and 2012 WLCJ Oprah Selection; and her most recent. Marching to Zion, published in 2013. Her books, set in the South throughout the 20th century, explore the inter section of the Southern Jewish Experience, the Civil Rights Movement, and the confluence of Jewish and African American cultures. We encourage our entire com munity to read Glickman’s book and then join the CJE on Decem ber 7 for an enlightening discus sion. This event is free and open to all, however, RSVP is re quested.
