Beef Fat's Roast is coming, darling
— and we're not talking standing
rib. That's right, honey. They're
roasting Boom Boom Latoux right
there on the Scorpio dance floor on
Wednesday, Aug. 13! You know the
girl — she won the elephant knees
title when she was 39. That was
1968, right after she waddled out of
the closet, massive hands on moun
tainous hips. Now she's full grown
and a fake lady, Mary, when she's
not impersonating men. And
slimmed down, too. Why, she used
to be Really Big. It's all to benefit
QCQ. And they're bringing in a dais
full of people to treat Miss K mart
Wig to some of the dish she's passed
out for years. Be there! But don't get
in the way of that chin!

Gay Parents Group
No Longer A Handful
What began as a dream nearly a
year ago has grown into a reality
for a group of gay parents in the
Charlotte area.
According to Mark Drum, acting
president of the newly re-organized
Gay Parents Coalition, the group
has grown from a small handful of
men trying to deal with their role as
parents, to an organization ready to
help both gay men and lesbians.
From its early beginnings as the
Gay Fathers Coalition, the group
has re-directed its outreach to in
clude lesbian mothers and draws
members from as far away as Ra
leigh. Membership has quadrupled
in the past six months.
Recent topics for meetings have
included:
■ Coming Out to Your Children
and Families
■ AIDS
■ Sexual Responsibility
■ Legal Issues Facing Gay Parents
The sessions were lead by quali
fied professionals such as counsel
ors, physicians and lawyers.
Drum said, '"The key to the success
of the group has been the dedica
tion of members and the quality of
programs. Many of our speakers
are gay parents themselves and
have shared their experiences with
the group as well."
The groups' outreach extends not
only to gay parents but to their
companions, friends, children and
spouses (both current and ex). Lov
ers of gay parents ("co-parents," as
the group refers to them) have
played key roles in the develop
ment and success of the group, ac
cording to Drum.
Members come from all age
groups and professional back
grounds. Some are still married and
living with spouses; others are di
vorced; still others are separated.
Some have come out to their fami
lies; others have not.
During the next year, the group
hopes to provide opportunities for
their children to meet one another in
a "Kid-nic," tentatively planned lor
August. Long-range plans have
been discussed to sponsor a South
eastern Regional Conference for
Gay and Lesbian Parenting Issues.
The group publishes a monthly
newsletter for members and associ
ate members. Memberships for par
ents are $10 per year and $5 for
associate members. Friends and
co-parents are encouraged to join.
