PAGE 8 Q-Notes ■ November 1986
The Best And Most Of Everything!
By MASK DRUM
Associate Editor
Charlotte gays have a great
deal to be thankful for this month.
Not only are we building a strong
community; we also have a
chance to exercise our right to
vote on Nov. 4. My vote for BEST
OPPORTUNITY is your ballot and
recording of a gay vote on Elec
tion Day. (See story on front page.)
Take a friend to vote this month!
■ ■ ■
My vote for BEST BUY of the
month is the coupon book for
Charlotte businesses that QCQ is
selling. At $25 , this has to be a
steal! One dinner at two-for-one
will nearly pay for the book. See
the ad elsewhere for details. You
can't go wrong. Also, since there is
no mention of the gay community
withthe coupon books, you may
find that you will want to give
some of your co-workers a chance
to buy one.
■ ■ ■
The vote for MOST OUTRA
GEOUS GROUP NAME has to go to
Closet Buster Productions. Dates for
the monthly 30-minute show to be
aired on cable channel 3 were still
to be worked out with Cablevision
though taping took place on Oct.
23. Keep your ears open or call the
Switchboard for information later
in the month. Interested in working
in TV? Join Closet Buster by calling
A1 Carwile at 376-1490.
Of course, the Tradesmen will
always sweep (swish?) on to a
landslide victory with the MOST UN
USUAL EVENT OF THE MONTH with
Club Night at the Brass Rail. This month
is nearly too ghastly to tell about, but
here goes. (I've never been one to shy
away from ghastly. You should see
some of the men I've dated!) The boys
are having a "Cheek-to-Cheek" contest
this month. Just match the fellows cheeks
with their other cheeks and win a $25
bar tab. Winning this one would be a
dubious honor, at best. Look for 50-cent
draft beer and the usual boot shines as
well. It's all in good fun. If you haven't
been to one of these, you've missed a
fun evening!
■ ■ ■
'There is a tie vote for BEST ENTER
TAINMENT BET this month. The Char
lotte Lambda chorale debuts on Sun
day, Nov. 23, at QCQ's Cabaret at Cha
rades. I hear we will be impressed! Also,
Lynn Lavner's appearance on Saturday,
Nov. 8, is touted to be an experience in
laughter (see article elsewhere).
■ ■ ■
And, finally, the SADDEST TALE:
When no more than 60 people partici
pated in QCQ's October skate party, the
event had to be dropped.
"We needed 18 more people to break
even," said Robert Sheets, president.
'The skating center rents the rink to
organizations on Thursdays for a guar
anteed return. When too few people
participate to repay the sponsoring

376-1490. (I'll play the dummy hands.)-
Keep in mind that the Switchboard

tresses! Auditions for "Get The Dickens

Watch out, Charlotte! Boom Boom’s
Christmas Carol will debut Dec. 10. I
can't tell you much, but I bribed one of
the writers and have this teaser for you:
"T'was the night before Christmas. The
bitch was in heat. Not a creature was
stirring. She's looking for meat!" And
you thought Halloween was strange!
Watch out, Christmas. It will NEVER be
the same!

ot the tine dining section and practically
repay yourselt for what it costs."
Charades, Joy Adult Bookstore and
Everything on East are selling the book
for QCQ. They are also available by
mail order from QCQ.
With the number of times gay men
and lesbians dine out and go to movies,
the savings for individual buyers could
be enormous. There are three restaurant
sections alone: 19 coupons for fine din
ing, 24 for casual/intemational dining,
and 109 for informal/carryout dining.
Other sections include these:
■ 42 movie coupons.
■ 82 coupons for theater/special
events such as Spirit Square, Little The
atre, CPCC Theatre, Discovery Place,
etc.
■ 40 stated-amount or percent-off cou
pons for shopping.
■ A huge special section containing
laundry/dry cleaning coupons.
■ 32 coupons for restaurants and
amusements in other places titled "High
lights of the Southeast."
■ A section of travel coupons for auto
rentals and hotels/motels.
"This is a value we felt the gay/les
bian community should have an oppor
tunity to buy to save money," said Rob
ert Sheets of QCQ. "And if Qfives our
organization a chance to raise money
for gay/lesbian events.
Value books such as "Entertainment
'87" are published as a marketing vehi
cle for businesses which want to intro
duce potential new customers to their
services. They have gained wide ac
ceptance from consumers who have
found that two-for-one coupons or stat
ed-value coupons are an excellent way
to have fine nights out at much reduced
prices.
