PAGE 2 Q-Notes ■ June 1987 Tradesmen Set AIDS Benefit By MASK DRUM Astocicrt* Editoi The Tradesmen have calmed down from Carolina Drummer '87 — well, at least some of them have — and will hold a benefit Friday, June 5, at the Brass Rail with a Leather Kitchen Bake Sale. (No, I didn't ask.) Money raised will go into a fund for a home for AIDS patients. This busy group has also re cently announced new officers: Bill Pursell is president for a sec ond term; Tony W. is vice presi dent; Tim H., treasurer; Barry B., secretary; Dennis C., sergeant-at- arms/pledge master; and Frank T., director of activities. (Sounds like type-casting to me.) When told that Mr. President's partner Tim H. (a.k.a. Nancy) would be treasurer, an anonymous source speculated, "1 hope she doesn't go out and spend the money on chinal" And I'll deny saying it. Mature Gay Men will sponsor a combined meeting with the Men's Dinner Group of Salisbury at the Paul's home and gardens in Con cord on June 13. Social hour is at 7:30 and covered-dish buffet at 8:30. Call Nevin, 882-1742, for directions and further information. ■ ■ ■ 'The group operating the Gay/Lesbian Switchboard, formerly G8cL Associates, is now the Metrolina Community Service Project. Congratulations to John Q. and all volunteers on their recent incorpora tion. They hope to be certified as a true non-profit organization within the next few months. John has been very busy the last month with speaking engage ments including Contact Reach volun teers and attending the Southeastern Gay 8c Lesbian Conference with Les Kooyman, director of Metrolina AIDS Project, Ron Lowe, MAP president, and Jim T. Kooyman has been equally busy. He and Lowe are attending the Interna tional Conference on AIDS in Washing ton, D.C. June 1-5. MAP has benefited from several recent events. 'The produc tion of "8X10 Glossy" by Women in Per formance brought in $350. Benefits from Oleens, Charades and Scorpio totaled nearly $2,500. Nearly $6,000 was raised from a recent mailing.
