PAGE 2 Q-Notes ■ July 1987 ‘Fairy Home Companion’ In Works The New Liie Flayers, one of Charlotte's most successful gay theatrical groups, will begin writ ing "A Fairy Home Companion" in August for production around Christmas. According to artistic di rector Art Fleschner, the produc tion will include gay/lesbian com edy vignettes combining the spirit of National Public Radio's "Prairie Home Companion" and NBC's "Saturday Night Live." "It'll give a lot of people a chance to participate," Fleschner said. Ca'll him at 366-6035 or 536-1864 with ideas for scenes and to vol unteer to act or work behind the stage. Fleschner is the minister at New Life MCC and will begin Holy Union locus sessions in July. Fleschner, who also directs the Charlotte Lambda Chorale, is still waiting to hear from Tony the baritone, who left a message, but no phone number. Come on, Tony dear, call the man! SUN MON TUES WED THUR FRI SAT It's "Stars 8c Stripes Forleather" on Friday, Jan. 3, at the Brass Rail as the Tradesmen hold their monthly club night with everyone invited. A sound system on the patio will provide hot dance mu sic to accompany the barbecue plates that will be served. And a stereo video system inside will show the club's booty Trademark I Anniversary Show. The jail will be open and boot- shines will be held. For a Friday night of something en tirely different, join the Tradesmen on club night starting at 9. Besides the good times, you could win a pair of tickets to "As Is" at the Little Theater in a raffle. The action starts at 9. During June, the Tradesmen raised $200 at the Rail with the money desig nated for QCQ's seed-money fund for a home for persons with AIDS. Congratula tions! Charades Slates PFLAG Benetit Charades will hold Charlotte's first benefit ever for PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbians & Gays) on 'Thurs day, June 23 — a comedy "Drag-a- thon." Charlotte's PFLAG chapter, now more than a year old, has been supporting its activities with out-of-pocket contribu tions from members and has received significant assistance from Christ Episco pal Church, where the chapter holds monthly meetings. However, PFLAG has major plans for the future. The group is considering a massive mailing of 4,000 to 5,000 pieces to doc tors, teachers, school counselors and ad ministrators, therapists, ministers, hospi tal social workers and psychiatric per sonnel, and civic groups. The Charades benefit could provide seed money for getting the mailing started. Other funds, according to one of the group's recent newsletters, could come from a grant from the Fund for Southern Communities which has a strong interest in working against discrimination based on sexual orientation as well as other attributes. Benefit funds could also be used to help PFLAG add sorely needed books to its library — books lent to parents re questing information about the sexual orientation one of their children may have revealed to them.
