A total of $26,000 was awarded to six local agencies, includ ing AIDS Care Service (ACS), the Positive Wellness Alliance, Equality NC, Triad Pride Men’s Chorus, the Theatre Alliance of Winston-Salem, and the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Department of Public Health Sciences. The largest portion of the awards, $13,500, was given to ACS, $7,000 of which has been allocated for their food pantry program. ACS took over the food pantry with the closure of the HOPE pro gram and supplies over 200 families with nutritious meals each month. In previous years the largest grant had been split between the two organizations. The Adam Foundation grew out of a pri vate gathering of friends (The Adam Festival) drawn together to raise emergency assistance funds for the Forsyth County AIDS Task Force in 1990. The Adam Festival Committee, a self-regenerating committee of volunteers from within the lesbian/gay community, has continued to organize the Festival annually since that first party. The members of the 1994 Adam Festival Committee incorporated the Adam Foundation as a nonprofit organization. Their goal was to provide an ongoing fund ing resource within the gay and lesbian community, building on the success of the Adam Festival — not only for HIV/AIDS services and education but also for lesbian and gay issues and concerns. For more information on the recipients or on the Adam Foundation, visit www.adamfoundation.org. That the pink dollars keep going around.”
